The Daily Courier - - OKANAGAN -

Kelowna is getting another McDonald’s restaurant.

The fast-food outlet is planned for 144 Old Vernon Rd., near the intersection of Highway 97, commonly known as Reid’s Corner.

However, council on Monday had to begin the process of eliminating an old landuse contract for the site. That document, which dates back to the 1970s, specifically prohibited a restaurant for the property.

Under an order from the provincial government, all B.C. municipalities are phasing out land-use contracts and replacing them with conventional zoning regulations.

The site eyed for a McDonald’s will be rezoned to a commercial designation.
