Petawawa branch get­ting ready for veter­ans’ din­ner

Ev­ery year we hold a veter­ans’ Din­ner as a thank you to those who have served or are serv­ing and to hon­our those who have paid the ul­ti­mate sac­ri­fice in ser­vice to our coun­try.

We in­vite ev­ery­one to join us on Thursday, Nov. 9. If you have ever “worn the uni­form” in ser­vice to our coun­try we will pro­vide din­ner for free for you and your spouse/ es­cort so no one is alone. If you are the spouse of a de­ceased veteran we in­vite you as well to join us. All that is re­quired is for you to come to the branch dur­ing reg­u­lar bar hours and pick up your tick­ets. Tick­ets can be pur­chased for ex­tra guests or for any­one who would like to come as well.

Our Poppy cam­paign kicks off on Fri­day, Oct. 27 and we en­cour­age the en­tire com­mu­nity to wear a Poppy proudly and show sup­port for those serv­ing and re­spect for all those who are no longer with us. We do not charge for pop­pies but ac­cept do­na­tions that go to sup­port our veter­ans. This is our big­gest fundrais­ing we do and ALL money raised as­sist veter­ans in our com­mu­nity. We thank you the com­mu­nity for your gen­eros­ity.

On Saturday, Oct. 28 we are hold­ing our Hal­loween dance with Michael Cur­tis and the Slags pro­vid­ing the en­ter­tain­ment from 8 p.m. to mid­night. There will be prizes for best cos­tume, spot dances and a late night snack. Open to ev­ery­one so get your cos­tumes ready and bring your friends.

Catch the Ace con­tin­ues with tick­ets on sale at the bar dur­ing reg­u­lar bar hours. The pot has grown to a nice lit­tle sum and the num­ber of cards are dwin­dling so drop in get yours and good luck!! Draw takes place at 6 p.m. ev­ery Fri­day.

Drop in ev­ery week for soup and sand­wich Wed­nes­days from 11:30 a.m. from 1 p.m. The choice of soup changes ev­ery week. Ev­ery­one is welcome to this and of course our Fri­day Fish and chips. En­joy your meal from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and you can even pick up your Catch the Ace ticket.

Mem­bers of the Ladies Aux­il­iary are re­minded of your gen­eral meet­ing at 6:30 p.m. on Tues­day, Oct. 17.

Royal Cana­dian Legion Branch 517 has in­tro­duced “Catch the Ace.” Folks can buy tick­ets each week in hopes of hav­ing their ticket drawn. They can then pick one of the 52 en­velopes with the win­ner choos­ing the one which con­tains the ace of spades. ?The per­son whose ticket is drawn gets 20 per cent of ticket sales that week. An­other 30 per cent goes to the Ace fund and 50 per cent goes to main fund for do­na­tions. Here to pro­mote the game is event chair­man John MacQueen and co-chair­woman Pat Oh­lund.
