Petawawa branch getting ready for veterans’ dinner
Every year we hold a veterans’ Dinner as a thank you to those who have served or are serving and to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
We invite everyone to join us on Thursday, Nov. 9. If you have ever “worn the uniform” in service to our country we will provide dinner for free for you and your spouse/ escort so no one is alone. If you are the spouse of a deceased veteran we invite you as well to join us. All that is required is for you to come to the branch during regular bar hours and pick up your tickets. Tickets can be purchased for extra guests or for anyone who would like to come as well.
Our Poppy campaign kicks off on Friday, Oct. 27 and we encourage the entire community to wear a Poppy proudly and show support for those serving and respect for all those who are no longer with us. We do not charge for poppies but accept donations that go to support our veterans. This is our biggest fundraising we do and ALL money raised assist veterans in our community. We thank you the community for your generosity.
On Saturday, Oct. 28 we are holding our Halloween dance with Michael Curtis and the Slags providing the entertainment from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be prizes for best costume, spot dances and a late night snack. Open to everyone so get your costumes ready and bring your friends.
Catch the Ace continues with tickets on sale at the bar during regular bar hours. The pot has grown to a nice little sum and the number of cards are dwindling so drop in get yours and good luck!! Draw takes place at 6 p.m. every Friday.
Drop in every week for soup and sandwich Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. from 1 p.m. The choice of soup changes every week. Everyone is welcome to this and of course our Friday Fish and chips. Enjoy your meal from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and you can even pick up your Catch the Ace ticket.
Members of the Ladies Auxiliary are reminded of your general meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Join us on the web at www.petawawalegion.ca or on Facebook at Petawawa Royal Canadian Legion Br 517.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 517 has introduced “Catch the Ace.” Folks can buy tickets each week in hopes of having their ticket drawn. They can then pick one of the 52 envelopes with the winner choosing the one which contains the ace of spades. ?The person whose ticket is drawn gets 20 per cent of ticket sales that week. Another 30 per cent goes to the Ace fund and 50 per cent goes to main fund for donations. Here to promote the game is event chairman John MacQueen and co-chairwoman Pat Ohlund.
