Promoting understanding

The Daily Observer - - OPINION -

Thank you to the Pembroke and Area Ministerial Association and St. Columbkille Cathedral for organizing and hosting, “Together in Christ – Lutherans and Catholics Commemorating the Reformation.” This service, celebrating 500 years of Reformation, was held Saturday, Oct. 28at St. Columbkille Cathedral in Pembroke. It was a truly remarkable and memorable gathering.

Last year, in Lund, Sweden, Pope Francis and Lutheran World Federation President Bishop Dr. Munib A. Younan participated in an ecumenical service commemorating the 499th Reformation anniversary. Pope Francis commented at that meeting, “We have the opportunity to mend a critical moment of our history by moving beyond the controversies and disagreements that have often prevented us from understanding one another.” Everyone involved in Saturday’s service deserves a sincere thank you for continuing to promote understanding.
