City council has agreed to extend the current management agreement for Festival Hall for the next two years.

The Festival Hall Consortium comprised of the municipalities of Pembroke, the Town of Petawawa and the Township of Laurentian Valley entered into a management agreement regarding the operation of the

Hall for a period of three years ending June 30, 2018.

The new deal allows for two oneyear extensions under the same terms and conditions as the original agreement, chief administrative officer Terry Lapierre explained to councillors last week. Each partner municipality currently contributes $1.25 per capita towards the contract to manage Festival Hall. This amount will not change as a result of the proposed extensions.

“It will not have an impact on what each municipality contributes,” said Lapierre.

Based on the performance of the contractor, it is the recommendation of the appointed municipal representatives to the Consortium that the council of each partner municipality approve the two one-year extensions, Lapierre said. At the end of the extensions, a request for proposals will be initiated regarding the future management of the facility. Councillors generally praised the efforts of Rick Wharton, has served as director of Festival Hall Centre for the Performing Arts for the past five years.

“This is a great decision that was made,” said Coun. Pat Lafreniere, chairwoman of the planning and development committee. “The services being provided to the three municipalities by Mr. Wharton has been excellent,”

“Certainly they are bringing a lot of shows and keeping the hall rented out,” added Coun. Christine Reavie.

While Laurentian Valley has approved the extension, a decision still has to come from Petawawa.
