Meet The Purchasers
The Timmins Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its eighth-annual Meet the Purchasers event next week. The event is an opportunity for small- and medium-sized businesses to meet purchasers such as mining companies, the City of Timmins, and local colleges. Participating purchasers will share what they buy locally, how their buying process works and how local businesses can be part of it. Carmen Swartz, manager of member services with the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, explained the event operates like a “reverse trade show,” where those behind the booths are the ones making the purchases while the attendees are the salespeople. swartz said this event is an excellent opportunity to network with businesses and to gain accessibility to the purchases. The Corporation of the City of Timmins, Detour Gold, Dumas, JS Redpath, Kidd Operations, Lake Shore Gold Corp., Primero Mining, Goldcorp Porcupine Gold Mines, and College Boreal are among the purchasing companies in attendance. Swartz said the Timmins Chamber hopes this yearly event makes it easier for local businesses to get access to opportunities to provide their goods and services to large industries. The cost to attend will be $40 for Chamber members and $55 for general admission. The cost includes continental breakfast. The event will take place in the auditorium at the Mcintyre Community Building on Jan. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. register online at www. timminschamber.ca or for more information contact the Timmins Chamber at 705-360-1900.
