Sock it to ’em

The Daily Press (Timmins) - - NEWS -

This month is socktober for socks Timmins. The organization “is looking for schools, groups, teams, businesses, service clubs, neighbourhoods or anyone who wants to support a great cause” to collect new socks for people in need in this city. These groups can reach out to sockstimmins@gmail.com, or drop off their donations at Bliss Beauty Bar, lemongrass home Decor, The Golden manor or Porcupine Timber mart. The province-wide initiative aims to ensure that “no one in ontario goes without socks.” last year, the organization made a goal to collect 5,000 socks. By the end of 2016, residents had donated 7,640 pairs. This year’s goal is 7,500 new socks. “many people do not realize that socks are the most needed and least donated item for the homeless,” said Carol halt, coordinator for the program, in a release.
