Cit­i­zen as­saulted

Po­lice say a res­i­dent who con­fronted a sus­pect al­legedly try­ing to break into a ve­hi­cle was as­saulted.

a timmins man is charged with as­sault fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent in which a res­i­dent con­fronted a sus­pect al­legedly try­ing to gain en­try into a parked ve­hi­cle.

ac­cord­ing to a re­lease is­sued by the timmins Po­lice ser­vice, of­fi­cers re­sponded to a res­i­den­tial theft in progress in the north end of the city early thurs­day morn­ing.

Upon ar­rival, timmins Po­lice ser­vice of­fi­cers were ad­vised of how a lo­cal res­i­dent had con­fronted a sus­pect al­legedly try­ing to gain en­try into a parked ve­hi­cle.

the of­fi­cers took a male sus­pect into cus­tody in re­la­tion to the al­ter­ca­tion and re­cov­ered a num­ber of smaller items be­lieved to be stolen from ve­hi­cles in the area.

Kyle Nako­gee, 31, is charged with as­sault, tres­pass by night, theft un­der $5,000, pos­ses­sion of prop­erty ob­tained by crime.

the ac­cused was re­leased from cus­tody on the strength of a Prom­ise to ap­pear re­quir­ing that he at­tend Pro­vin­cial court in timmins on Nov. 27th to an­swer to the charges laid against him.

as a re­sult of this in­ves­ti­ga­tion, a num­ber of smaller items, be­lieved to have been stolen from un­locked ve­hi­cles in the north end of the city, re­main in the pos­ses­sion of the timmins Po­lice ser­vice as ev­i­dence.

“any res­i­dents who have be­come aware of any sim­i­lar petty theft oc­cur­rences in the north end of the city are asked to re­port these mat­ters to the timmins Po­lice ser­vice in the hopes of re­turn­ing items to their right­ful own­ers af­ter these mat­ters have been dealt with ap­pro­pri­ately through the court sys­tem,” po­lice asked.

in the re­lease, the timmins Po­lice ser­vice took the op­por­tu­nity to re­mind res­i­dents and prop­erty own­ers to:

• lock their parked or unat­tended ve­hi­cles;

• not keep valu­able items in their ve­hi­cles; and

• keep any items stored in their unat­tended or parked ve­hi­cles hid­den from plain view.

“these sim­ple mea­sures will re­duce the like­li­hood of be­com­ing the vic­tim of theft oc­cur­rences.”
