The Timmins Police Service is asking the public for any information that might be related to an early morning armed robbery that was reported to have taken place at the Pioneer service station at 1455 Riverside Drive.

Police said it was approximately 1 a.m. Thursday that an unidentified suspect entered the service station and demanded money and merchandise from the clerk.

Police said the robber, who was wearing a disguise, took an amount of cash and merchandise and then ran out of the service kiosk. Police did not reveal the nature of a weapon the robber might have been using, nor was there any information on whether the clerk was injured.

An employee at the store told The Daily Press the robber had a gun, a facemask and was holding a bag and directed the night clerk to give him cash and cigarettes. He also confirmed that the night clerk did exactly what the robber told him to do and was not injured.

Timmins Police officers responded to the scene and conducted an initial investigation. The TPS Criminal Investigations Division is doing a follow-up investigation.

Anyone with information in regards to this occurrence is encouraged to call the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 said the police news release.
