The Norfolk Field Naturalists is hosting a guest speaker on Jan. 10 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Simcoe Seniors Centre (89 Pond St., Simcoe). Phragmites in Norfolk – What Can Be Done by Janice Gilbert. Gilbert is a wetlands ecologist with the Long Point Phragmites Action Alliance, with which NFN is associated. Phragmites is also known as European Common Reed. She will speak about this incredibly invasive species that is infecting about 40 per cent of Long Point Marsh and the efforts being made to mitigate its spread and take back the marsh.
