The Nor­folk Field Nat­u­ral­ists is host­ing a guest speaker on Jan. 10 from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Sim­coe Se­niors Cen­tre (89 Pond St., Sim­coe). Phrag­mites in Nor­folk – What Can Be Done by Jan­ice Gil­bert. Gil­bert is a wet­lands ecol­o­gist with the Long Point Phrag­mites Ac­tion Al­liance, with which NFN is as­so­ci­ated. Phrag­mites is also known as Euro­pean Com­mon Reed. She will speak about this in­cred­i­bly in­va­sive species that is in­fect­ing about 40 per cent of Long Point Marsh and the ef­forts be­ing made to mit­i­gate its spread and take back the marsh.
