Baird new head of Norfolk public works
Norfolk County made it official last week with the appointment of Chris Baird as the new general manager of public works and environmental services. Baird is the county’s former head of development and cultural services. He was named acting manager of public works this summer following the resignation of Lee Robinson. Robinson left the county in July for personal reasons related to family matters. Baird comes full circle with Norfolk County with his new appointment. When the new Norfolk came into being in 2001, Baird was the county’s first roads manager. Baird’s appointment to the public works department was announced at the Aug. 28 meeting of Norfolk council. “I take this very seriously,” Baird told council. “I look forward to serving you and the residents of Norfolk County.” With Baird ensconced at public works, the county will advertise for a new general manager of development and cultural services. This is a wide-ranging department involving oversight of planning, the building division, bylaw enforcement, tourism and economic development, and county museums and archives.
