Gleichen-Cluny, Standard and Hussar Show and Sale goes this Sunday
There is nothing better than Alberta beef…well…nothing better than Alberta 4-H beef.
The Gleichen-Cluny, Standard and Hussar 4H Show and Sale goes this Sunday, May 24. The spring tradition brings out the brightest 4-Her’s, the best quality steers around that fetch some of the best prices thanks to great community supporters.
“We would like to extend our personal invitation to you and your business to attend our show and sale and be a part of a strong 4-H movement in our community,” said sale association president Geoff Fraser in an invitation letter
The show begins at 10 a.m. and the sale is at 3 p.m. This year there are 34 calves on the block, up from last year. The show will take place at the Hussar Arena.
If last year’s event is any gauge of what kind of show and sale it will be, it should be a great year for the club. The fundraising 4-H calf fetched an astonishing $4.30, and was purchased by CJS Agro services. Last year 29 calves were sold.
Grand Champion of the show was member Hailey Morrison’s 1,261 pound Hereford steer which was purchased by Western Chev Olds for $3.40 per pound. Reserve Grand Champion was member Ciara Sandum with her highest gaining club, 1346 pound Hereford steer purchased by Deer Valley Implements for $2.80 per pound.
After the sale, buyers are invited to a roast beef dinner at the Hussar Community Centre. This dinner is for members, buyers, officials and their spouses. It is followed by an awards ceremony.
Fraser says there is always great support from Drumheller businesses for the sale.
“We feel the kids have, once again put in a lot of time and effort in their projects and a good sale is a nice pat on the back for a job well done,” he said in a letter.
He encourages residents and businesses in the area to come to the annual show and sale and lend support to the 4H in Hailey Morrison’s Hereford steer was the grand Champion at last year’s Hussar 4-H Show and Sale. these communities, which is well and thriving.
