Lacrosse teams show strong per­for­mances

There was an­other busy week­end for the Drumheller Rap­tor Lacrosse teams on May 8, 9 and 10.

Kick­ing off the week­end were the Midgets host­ing the In­n­is­fail Phan­toms for a Fri­day night game. The team ended up los­ing with a score of 2 to 5 but had a great turnout of lo­cal fans.

Satur­day was an­other day of home games for the Novice, Pee Wee and Ban­tam teams. The Ban­tams had a noon game against Olds which was hard fought but re­sulted in a loss for this small team with a score of 2-9.

The Novice team played an awe­some game against the Novice com­bi­na­tion team of Lacombe and Po- noka, called the Lakota Lo­cos. The boys and girls from Drumheller played a re­ally great game, los­ing by two in a 4-2 game.

The Pee Wee Rap­tors took on the team from Hobbema and won the game with a score of 8 to 3.

Mother’s Day Sun­day also saw all Drumheller teams in action with the Novice host­ing Lakota post­ing a 4-2 loss.

The Pee Wee and Ban­tam teams both trav­elled to Olds where they were both beaten 8-3 for the pee wee’s and 11-2 for the Ban­tams. Then th­ese two teams trav­elled north to In­n­is­fail for their sec­ond games of the day. The Pee Wee came away with a tight win of 5-4 over In­n­is­fail while the Ban­tams suf­fered a loss of 9-2.

The Midget team played a game in Red Deer giv­ing up a three goal lead in the first pe­riod for a 10-4 loss. Both the Ban­tam and Midget teams are run­ning a bench with only 9 or 10 run­ners, mak­ing all the play­ers ex­tremely tired con­sid­er­ing their coun­ter­parts have teams of 20 play­ers.

All the coaches ex­pressed how proud they are of all th­ese great boys and girls for play­ing their hard­est and giv­ing their all at ev­ery game.

There was no action over the May long week­end but the Midget’s in­vite res­i­dents to come out to the Drumheller Arena on Thurs­day, May 21 at 7 p.m. for a game against Red Deer M2.

All the teams have home games on ei­ther Satur­day, May 23 with the Ban­tam team host­ing Lakota at 2:30 p.m. and the Pee Wee’s host­ing Lakota’s Pee Wee team at 4 pm. Then on Sun­day, May 24 at 10:00 a.m.

Dids­bury will be play­ing against our Midget team, Pee­Wee’s play Dids­bury at 11:30 a.m. the Novice host Red Deer N1 at 1:15 p.m. and the Midgets will play again at 2:30 p.m. against Red Deer M1 mak­ing for a very busy cou­ple of days of lacrosse action in Drumheller. Come on out to sup­port the teams.
