Lacrosse teams show strong performances
There was another busy weekend for the Drumheller Raptor Lacrosse teams on May 8, 9 and 10.
Kicking off the weekend were the Midgets hosting the Innisfail Phantoms for a Friday night game. The team ended up losing with a score of 2 to 5 but had a great turnout of local fans.
Saturday was another day of home games for the Novice, Pee Wee and Bantam teams. The Bantams had a noon game against Olds which was hard fought but resulted in a loss for this small team with a score of 2-9.
The Novice team played an awesome game against the Novice combination team of Lacombe and Po- noka, called the Lakota Locos. The boys and girls from Drumheller played a really great game, losing by two in a 4-2 game.
The Pee Wee Raptors took on the team from Hobbema and won the game with a score of 8 to 3.
Mother’s Day Sunday also saw all Drumheller teams in action with the Novice hosting Lakota posting a 4-2 loss.
The Pee Wee and Bantam teams both travelled to Olds where they were both beaten 8-3 for the pee wee’s and 11-2 for the Bantams. Then these two teams travelled north to Innisfail for their second games of the day. The Pee Wee came away with a tight win of 5-4 over Innisfail while the Bantams suffered a loss of 9-2.
The Midget team played a game in Red Deer giving up a three goal lead in the first period for a 10-4 loss. Both the Bantam and Midget teams are running a bench with only 9 or 10 runners, making all the players extremely tired considering their counterparts have teams of 20 players.
All the coaches expressed how proud they are of all these great boys and girls for playing their hardest and giving their all at every game.
There was no action over the May long weekend but the Midget’s invite residents to come out to the Drumheller Arena on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. for a game against Red Deer M2.
All the teams have home games on either Saturday, May 23 with the Bantam team hosting Lakota at 2:30 p.m. and the Pee Wee’s hosting Lakota’s Pee Wee team at 4 pm. Then on Sunday, May 24 at 10:00 a.m.
Didsbury will be playing against our Midget team, PeeWee’s play Didsbury at 11:30 a.m. the Novice host Red Deer N1 at 1:15 p.m. and the Midgets will play again at 2:30 p.m. against Red Deer M1 making for a very busy couple of days of lacrosse action in Drumheller. Come on out to support the teams.
