Now that Mother’s day has passed, you can plan for Father’s Day in Dalum. The Dalum Hall Association is sponsoring a picnic in the park on June 21, more details will be provided later, including those for a general community clean up beforehand.

A few Dalum Country Club ladies enjoyed a different kind of “field trip” on April 14 as they loaded the Boeing suburban and they were like 7-27 year olds. Their flight’s first landing was at the Saskatoon farm in Okotoks with the final destination supper at the Strathmore Station. Numerous stops helped keep the turbulence under control and included High River, Blackie, and Carsland.

Harv and Della were pleased that Kyle and Erin and Wyatt came farming for the May long weekend, to help the Poulsens complete this year’s planting.

Pastor Dan & Paula Hendrickson spent the long weekend at the coast to honor his parents on their 50th Wedding Anniversary and to spend time with family.

There’s a special birthday coming up for Benth Poulsen. He will celebrate his 80th year on May 24 with a Garden Party in their backyard from 2:00 – 5:00; complete with all who came to congratulate him.

The next weekend, May 29 and 30 is busy too, with DCHS Graduation for Jenny Pallesen, Ellen Clark, Branden Schneider, Caitlyn Ryan, Josh Gustafson and their families. Anyone can watch their Grand March on Friday night at the arena at 7:00. Convocation follows at noon Saturday at the school gym.

The Friendship Club is hosting another Spring Tea at the hall on Thursday, June 4 at 2:00 pm and all are welcome to attend.

We have cruise news. Bob & Judy Nelson reported on their 19 day excursion with another couple, which included the Panama Canal, Aruba and Latin American countries. Skipping Mexico didn’t help avoid sickness, as ½ the ship ended up in quarantine due to a flu they blamed on Columbia. Staff wore face masks and served all food, even salt and pepper. In LA they were allowed to visit only one destination – customs. Their last 4 days aboard was marked by 12 foot waves that forced all open decks and balconies off limits and the draining of the swimming pools. Victoria provided a pleasant tour before their disembarkment in Vancouver.

The Nelsons enjoyed the precruise week in the Florida Keys with Bob’s sister who lives there. They rented a convertible and took in the Kennedy Space Center, Orlando, and more.

Word has been received of the passing May 8, 2009 of Alek Bill, husband of Ruth Jacobson who grew up in Dalum. Ruth & Alek met in Prince Rupert B.C. when she worked as an RN & Alek was with the RCMP. They have enjoyed many years of retirement in Vancouver. Sympathy of many old friends in Dalum is extended to Ruth and their family; Alek- sander who teaches in Korea, Cassandra a professor at UBC, and Candace and her daughter Vanessa. Alek will also be fondly remembered by the families of the late Harry Jacobsen, Grace Lenz of London, Ontario and Edith Woods of Calgary. You can direct correspondence to Ruth Bill at 1835 Morton Ave. #1601, Vancouver BC V6G 1V3 or call her at 1-604-687-8550.

Meeting dates coming up are the next ELW meeting at the Church on Tuesday May 19 at 1:30 and Friendship Club Thursday, May 21 at Jesse Axelsen’s.

There will be a general cleanup at the Church and grounds, Friday, May 29 starting at 9:00 a.m.
