There will be a bridal shower for Taryn Wheeler (Clarke Van Hereweghe’s grand-daughter) bride-elect of Shane Millman on Sunday, May 24 at 2 pm at the Standard Seniors Center. Everyone welcome.
The Erik and Sherri Neilsen family were asked to be the spokesfamily for the 6th Annual Cassie Campbell Street Hockey Festival held at the Olympic Oval on May 1 & 2. It is a huge fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House. Leeza was able to drop the ball for the celebrity game and was on the cover of the Calgary Sun with Cassie Campbell and Pat Quinn. Cassie Campbell was the captain of the Women’s Hockey team that won the gold medal in 2002 and 2006. They were also on Global TV and kids got to meet lots of celebrities and get all their autographs. The family was put up in a very nice hotel downtown for 2 nights and treated like royalty.
The Neilsen family would like to extend a huge Thank You to the community for all the acts of kindness they’ve experienced over the past year. Without all the support this past year we are not sure how we would have coped. Leeza continues her journey but she is doing very well. Our appreciation to everyone from Eric, Sherri, Owen, Reed, Spencer and Leeza.
On Saturday, May 9, the Hussar Sundowners held their annual Mothers’ Day Tea at the Drop-In Centre with 56 ladies and 30 children present. Annabelle Armstrong was the MC for the afternoon and gave a reading on the “The History of Aprons”. The tables and cabinets were decorated in an apron theme as well. Barb Slemko’s Playschool group supplied us with several very animated songs, after which they presented their mothers with picture frames they had made, as well as giving all the mothers present a handmade flower which was really appreciated. Several door prizes were drawn for and lunch was served. A big thank you to all who donated in any way, and we were very happy to see so many from out of town.
If anyone has any teacups and saucers they would like to donate to the Drop-In, we would appreciate it. We need a few more as we need to borrow for these special occasions, and it would be nice to have enough of our own.
Vern and Muriel Johnson’s niece, Carol McCabe, of Christina Lake, B.C. visited from May 9 to May 11.
Marion Doering visited at the Clifford Christensen farm for several days last week. Warren has been helping Wendell and Clifford with seeding.
