The Hussar Ladies Bon­spiel was held last week. Con­grats to the win­ners of the “A” event, the May Rostecki-Budzey Rink from Strath­more which in­cluded Teresa Koois­tra, Shirlee McKin­non and Michelle Chiz­mazia. Win­ners of the “B” event were the Mar­i­lyn Arm­strong rink from Bas­sano. Mar­i­lyn, Carla Evans, Pam Dou­glass and Sheila Evans made up that team. Con­grats to the “C” event win­ners, the Shan­non Gor­don rink from Hussar. On this team was Shan­non, Cindy Sel­gensen, Barb Slemko and Paige Sev­ert­son. A great time was had by all at the “PJ” theme ban­quet and through­out the week. A big thank you to ev­ery­one who helped to or­ga­nize the bon­spiel, an­other huge suc­cess!

The Hussar Fire­works ringette home tour­na­ment will be held in Hussar this week­end start­ing Fe­bru­ary 5. The Hussar girls will be play­ing on Fri­day night at 5:00 p.m., Satur­day Fe­bru­ary 6 at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Come on out and cheer on the girls!

The Hussar Knights atom hockey team plays on Fe­bru­ary 7 in Bas­sano at 3:45 as well.

Rock­y­ford Rush ringette team played in the Cal­gary Cora Clas­sic tour­na­ment last week­end. Home­town girls on the team in­clude Beth Lein, Deb­bie Knud­sen and Brit­tany Weg­ner. The girls won all four games in the round robin bring­ing them to the semi fi- nals against the Rock­y­ford Ringers. The Rush beat the Ringers to ad­vance to the fi­nal where the girls beat the Cal­gary Mad­hat­ters by a score of 8-2. The Rush played 6 games, re­main­ing un­de­feated through the whole tour­na­ment win­ning the Open ‘C’ gold! Way to go girls!!

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Barry Kaiser rink for win­ning the “A” event in the Gem bon­spiel. The team con­sisted of Barry, Randy Kaiser, Clay Wil­liams and Ken Wil­liams. Way to go guys!

Friends of East Wheat­land are look­ing for farm­ers to plant 10 acres of canola for a fundraiser for the new school. They will sup­ply the seed and they also have some chem­i­cal. You will get a tax re­ceipt for the dif­fer­ence of your rev­enue do­na­tion and the cost of the seed. The an­nual Hussar Alumni vol­ley­ball tour­na­ment will be held on Fe­bru­ary 19 and 20. If you would like to en­ter a team please let An­gela Treacy or Erica Thew know as soon as pos­si­ble.

There was a baby shower for lit­tle Ro­z­lyn Poulsen, daugh­ter to Amy & Troy Poulsen, on Sun­day, Jan 31 at the Hussar Sun­downer Cen­tre. Lacy Kaiser wel­comed the crowd and Amy thanked ev­ery­one for the gifts. A de­li­cious lunch was served. It was nice to have Grandma Yvonne Thew, Great Grand­moth­ers Mar­i­lyn Thew and Juanita Fin­ley, Great Great Grand­mother Bertha Soderquist in at­ten­dance.

The Bas­sano Out­laws Pee­wee team con­sist­ing of Em­mitt Filko­hazy, Ja­son Slemko, Dustin Holm, Cadin Hiebert, Dex­ter Hale and Dayne Col­lett hosted a 6 team tour­na­ment over the week­end in Bas­sano. The event was well at­tended. The Bas­sano team came out win­ning the B Event. Con­grats to all the boys. Thanks to all the par­ents for all your help over the week­end. Thanks to ev­ery­one who do­nated prizes for the week­end and for all that at­tended!

The Hussar His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is start­ing the next stage in get­ting our his­tory book ready to print. We are start­ing to edit sto­ries and get them saved un­der the right for­mat. This means that we are still ac­cept­ing sto­ries even a lit­tle af­ter our fi­nal due date. I know it seems like we may be say­ing this over and over again, but we want to make sure ev­ery­one gets their story in so we can make it up to date for ev­ery­one. The Hussar Kinder­garten As­so­ci­a­tion will be work­ing our next casino on June 23 and 24, 2016. Our school has 28 fam­i­lies that at­tend and we have 36 spots to fill. So if you can at­tend the casino, please let Pam Col­lett know. If you and your spouse want to work to­gether, that would work great too!! This casino is called Kinder­garten but it funds all of the spe­cial events that hap­pen in our school. If you can spare some hours to help out, that would be ap­pre­ci­ated.

The Hussar Hall and District Main­te­nace So­ci­ety is still sell­ing Cash Cal­en­dar tick­ets. Get your chance to win a prize for ev­ery sin­gle day of March!! Tick­ets are on sale at Richard­son, Arm­strong Auto and Chi­nook Fi­nan­cial. Thanks to ev­ery­one who has bought tick­ets and sup­ported the hall. We re­ally ap­pre­ci­ate it.

The Hussar Ban­tam Knights at­tended a tour­na­ment in Fort Mcleod the week­end of Jan­uary 29-31. The tour­na­ment started off a bit rocky but the boys picked it up and won the B side. It was a great week­end for both the boys and their fam­i­lies!

On the week­end Tonya Schempp, An­gela Treacy, Jes­sica Kaiser and Teneil Wruck trav­elled to Aberdeen, Saskatchewan to curl in a ladies bon­spiel. This is Teneil’s home­town so it was nice for her to get to see ev­ery­one back home. The girls won the “C” event while there, way to go girls!
