Dragons drop two over weekend
It was another tough weekend for the Dragons as they fell two points behind the Canmore Eagles and fifth in the Viterra South after two losses.
On Friday night, February 5 the Dragons hosted the Spruce Grove Saints at home, and then Saturday they headed to Brooks. While the Dragons fell on both occasions, they were two very different games Despite leading for most of Friday night in front of a season record 848 fans, a late surge by Spruce Grove, dashed the Dragons’ hope for a home victory.
The Dragons saw goals from Levi Wunder and Avery Belcourt as the first period ended tied at two.
Just 53 seconds into the second period Clint Filbrandt put the Dragons up 3-2.
This lasted until three minutes into the third period when the Saints took over and scored three straight goals.
Final score: 5-3. Matt Muzyka had three assists and Evan Tschumi had two.
On Saturday night, the Dragons were in Brooks to face the Bandits. Hobbled by injuries and Evan Rochowiak serving a suspension, the Dragons were outgunned by the Bandits.
Wunder scored the lone goal for the Dragons 12 minutes into the third period, as the Bandits ran away with a 9-1 victory, outshooting the Dragons 57-22.
Tonight, ( Wednesday, February 10) the Dragons are in Lloydminster and this Saturday, are back home to face the Okotoks Oilers. The Dragons led the way for the bulk of Friday night’s game versus the Spruce Grove Saints, but fell in the third period. This Saturday they will be back home to face the Okotoks Oilers.
