Hand Hills Grapevine
Hello Hand Hills…Spring is still here in the Hills but we are all waiting and anticipating that winter will arrive when we least expect it. Enjoy this warm weather while it lasts. We hope that it gets warm enough to melt all of the ice.
I have very little news and I think I know why no one has phoned me..Everyone is on the hockey trail. Last week there was the Cowboys Tournament. Dean Cruikshank was a coach on one of the teams. Tommy and Billy Vredegoor played on that team as well. At the arena to watch son in law Kelly Creasy was the Raymond Sieppert Family. Dionne Rosin played in that Tournament as well so that meant that Larry was in town too. The Pee Wee Team, out of Hanna, had Brandon Galster playing in Provincials and League. The Hanna Fillies with Tatum Vredegoor, Sierra Raugust and Lacey Miller on it, played in Morrin, the Novice Team with Lincoln Nelner and Sam Vredegoor played two away games. Liam Rosin and Lochlann Hardy both played in separate games in Delia. Zander Rosin, who plays out of Delia, may have had a game as well. (I never heard that hockey report just guessing). There was a huge skating BD Party for Riata Gammie in Delia that had lots of the local kids out for some fun.
Fast forward to this past weekend and the same could be said. The Hanna Fillies with Jill Moench, Morgan Burgemeister and Erin Francis played in Hanna. The Hanna Midget Team had the Siepperts’ back at the rink to watch their grandson Shane play. (I heard that they won). The Phantoms played on Friday night and that involves the Stevens, the Kyle Rosins’, the McDonald and the Stuber Family as well as the Vredegoor (although Cody is on the injured list).
I think that the reason for the lack of news came to me as we were in Hanna for the Hanna Mites Home Tournament. The stands were full of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. No one was home, not even me, to phone or take a call about the happenings in the Hills; it was all happening at the arena. We all say that we have no time to do this or that but it was apparent that a lot of people got their priorities straight and watching hockey was high on their list.
The Mites team had William Benedict, Ellie Vredgoor, Kate Brady, John Kenowesequape and Weston and Zachary McAfee playing. This meant that the Haugen and the Macisaac Families were in the arena. Ada Benedict was out to watch her Great Grandson play and her Grandson coach. In watching young 4 year old William Benedict play in his first year of hockey I can’t help but wonder if he will have a hockey career that spans over the next 60 years just like his grandfather Glenn, his Great Grandfather Don and his Great Uncle Don. I see the love and understanding of the game already developed in this young players. Ada did that thought cross your mind? Hockey runs deep in this family as Jim had been a score keeper and supporter of the Hanna Oldtimers for many, many years. Go Benedicts Go! I know that I may have missed some of the local hockey players but no one phoned me and I would not have been home, so I am just going by what I think I know.
