Congratulations to the Wheatland Thrashers Midget team after their big win at the 2016 Midnapore Midget Banff Classic Tournament held this weekend. Following a win, a tie and a loss, they ended up victorious in the A-Final against the host team, the Midnapore Mavericks. The team, coached by Brandon Neufeld, Jordan Griffiths and Keith Rasmussen includes players from the communities of Rockyford, Standard, Hussar, Arrowwood and Strathmore. Rockyford players include: Jared Burke, Shawn Dionne, Cale Kathol, Nolan Kathol, Will Kathol and Jack Sherman.
February 15 is a special day of celebration. Not only is it Family Day, but it is also the 50th anniversary of the first raising of the National Flag in 1965. From thousands of designs submitted, the red maple leaf with two red bars was selected by the House of Commons in December 1964.
After Family Day’s wonder- ful holiday, the children will be out of school for the rest of the week. Looking for ideas to keep them occupied? Rockyford Library is offering a free movie presentation each day from Tuesday through Thursday (February 16 to 18). Join us for a movie, starting at 3:00 and enjoy popcorn and iced tea too!
Have you been caught up in the new adult colouring trend? UFOs (Unfinished Objects), primarily a knitting/crochet/ needlecraft group welcomes you to join them from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon. Bring your pictures, your crayons or felts, and visit for a while.
A lot is happening at the library over the next couple of weeks. The book club (Speaking Volumes) meets at 7 on Wednesday, February 17 to discuss Louise Penny’s book entitled The Brutal Telling. The photography group will meet Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., February 18. And if you’re interested in turning your hand at some writing, why not check out our writers’ group on Thursday, February 25, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
