Birth­day greet­ings to those of you cel­e­brat­ing this week are sent to; Gor­don Kat­ter­ha­gen, Becky Kathol, Brad Munchrath, Meghan Stinn, Patti Dahm, Thea Koester, Pam Melcher and to any­one else cel­e­brat­ing a spe­cial oc­ca­sion this week.

The Mens’ Bon­speil is tak­ing place at the Rock­y­ford Sport­splex this week.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Wheat­land Thrash­ers Midget team af­ter their big win at the 2016 Mid­na­pore Midget Banff Clas­sic Tour­na­ment held this week­end. Fol­low­ing a win, a tie and a loss, they ended up vic­to­ri­ous in the A-Fi­nal against the host team, the Mid­na­pore Mav­er­icks. The team, coached by Bran­don Neufeld, Jor­dan Grif­fiths and Keith Ras­mussen in­cludes play­ers from the com­mu­ni­ties of Rock­y­ford, Stan­dard, Hussar, Arrowwood and Strath­more. Rock­y­ford play­ers in­clude: Jared Burke, Shawn Dionne, Cale Kathol, Nolan Kathol, Will Kathol and Jack Sher­man.

Fe­bru­ary 15 is a spe­cial day of cel­e­bra­tion. Not only is it Fam­ily Day, but it is also the 50th an­niver­sary of the first rais­ing of the Na­tional Flag in 1965. From thou­sands of de­signs sub­mit­ted, the red maple leaf with two red bars was se­lected by the House of Com­mons in De­cem­ber 1964.

Af­ter Fam­ily Day’s won­der- ful hol­i­day, the chil­dren will be out of school for the rest of the week. Look­ing for ideas to keep them oc­cu­pied? Rock­y­ford Li­brary is of­fer­ing a free movie pre­sen­ta­tion each day from Tues­day through Thurs­day (Fe­bru­ary 16 to 18). Join us for a movie, start­ing at 3:00 and en­joy pop­corn and iced tea too!

Have you been caught up in the new adult colour­ing trend? UFOs (Un­fin­ished Ob­jects), pri­mar­ily a knit­ting/cro­chet/ needle­craft group wel­comes you to join them from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. ev­ery Tues­day af­ter­noon. Bring your pic­tures, your crayons or felts, and visit for a while.

A lot is hap­pen­ing at the li­brary over the next cou­ple of weeks. The book club (Speak­ing Vol­umes) meets at 7 on Wed­nes­day, Fe­bru­ary 17 to dis­cuss Louise Penny’s book en­ti­tled The Bru­tal Telling. The pho­tog­ra­phy group will meet Thurs­day evening at 6:30 p.m., Fe­bru­ary 18. And if you’re in­ter­ested in turn­ing your hand at some writ­ing, why not check out our writ­ers’ group on Thurs­day, Fe­bru­ary 25, be­gin­ning at 6:30 p.m.
