On Sunday, February 21 several residents awoke to discover vehicles stolen, property stolen and rifled through. Everybody who has been affected, even in a small way, is asked to report it to the Strathmore RCMP detachment. The number is 403 934-3535. Residents are also asked to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Lock your car doors and all doors to property. Most importantly, watch out for each other! If your neighbor’s dog won’t stop barking, maybe there is a reason, it’s not just being annoying!

It’s that time of year again ladies! The annual Standard Lionettes Ladies Night will be held April 16 at the Standard Community Hall. Make sure you’re ready to boogie in your disco finery!

The Standard Hall Board thanks everyone who donated Sobey’s stickers to help build up the cutlery at the hall. If you have unused stickers, Nazareth Lutheran Church is also collecting. The Standard Community Facility Enhancement Society is spearheading an interesting fundraiser in support of the Memory Lane walking/cycling path project. An area resident has come forward and offered to rent 160 acres of farmland for one dollar per acre to the group. The land could be rented for 1 year. The Memory Lane group would be responsible for cropping the land for the upcoming year (2016). All profits recognized would go toward building the memory lane walking path. The group would like to make this a community fundraiser by getting residents/businesses to help cover input of costs, seed, fertilizer, chemical, fuel, etc. Also the group would like to ask area farmers to consider offering to help seed, spray, and harvest the crop. Anyone who would like to help out can contact one of the society directors. For those who would like to make donations to the project, they can do so by making cheques payable to the Village of Standard, and writing “Memory Lane” in the memo line. This way, tax deductible receipts will be issued. Donations can also be made to a special “Memory Lane” account that has been set up at CHS in Standard. Society di- rectors are Don Sundgaard, Jackie Jensen, Ron Corbiell, Moe Zaleschuk, Alan Larsen and Louise Welen. Watch for the flyers coming out soon in your mailboxes.

Friends of East Wheatland are looking for farmers! We have the seed and we have some chemical but we need farmers to plant 10 acres of canola for the new school. The farmer will get a tax receipt for the difference of their donated revenue and the inputs received from FEW. Contact Celeste Christensen (403)644-2212 or Jeadene Gregory (403)7872553 for more information or to sign up.

Nazareth Lutheran Church, as well as various area congregations, invite you to attend the World Day of Prayer worship service at Rosebud Church on March 4 at 2 pm. The Rosebud Church ladies are organizing the worship this year and it’s guaranteed to be a fulfilling, spiritual gathering.

As always, submissions can be made to standard or to Pastor Dyanna Couture at 403644-3998. Please try to have your submissions in by early evening on Sunday!
