After struggling with health issues for so many years, yet persevering with strength and determination, life’s final rest came to Greg Nail when he passed away last Sunday. A funeral for Greg will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Dalum on Thursday at 2:00 pm, this week.
Barry Pallesen has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Rosebud Gas Co-op and will serve as the representative for the Dalum area. He fills the vacancy which resulted from the passing of Leo Jensen who was a long serving board member on our local gas co-op and assumed a position with the Rosebud Co-op when the two suppliers merged a few years ago. As the representative for the Dalum area customers, Barry may be contacted in regard to any problems, concerns or questions which should be presented to the board.
After ten days at Cozumel, Mexico, where they enjoyed the water and warm weather at that Caribbean island, Mike and Alison Ostergard returned home just in time to get a taste of the recent storm which dumped at least a half inch of rain followed by four inches of snow across the Drumheller area. Returning from the Pacific coast of Mexico were the Sandum, Petersen and Poulsen group who also enjoyed a nice vacation.
One day last week we saw youngsters warming up their arms by tossing baseballs about but that rite of spring must be put aside until later due to the recent snowfall. The big leaguers, however, have begun spring training and on March 2 our Canadian team, the Toronto Blue Jays, will play the first of their sixteen pre-season games at Dunedin, Florida, with two more to follow in Montreal.
Only one current member of the community appears on my birthday list this week and that is Lionel Duncalf who lives with his wife, Robin and their children, on what many remember as the Tom and Helen Mortensen place; Happy Birthday, Lionel. Several earlier members of the community including Arild Jensen Sr., Ferrel Jensen (one of the early “flying farmers”), Peter Jacobsen and Alfred Petersen had February birthdays and remain in our memories. February 22 was the 100th anniversary of Hans Boe’s birth and we see that his grandson, Mitchell Boe, is in the process of building a new home at the original Chris Boe homestead; congratulations, Mitchell.
Planning for the Dalum centennial celebration will resume in March when the committee will meet to work on some of the longer range planning needed for that event which is scheduled for the weekend of August 3 to 5, 2018. A date and location for the meeting will be determined and committee members notified in the very near future.
Supporters of the community hall are reminded that the Annual General Meeting of the Dalum Community Hall Association is set for 7:30 pm on Tuesday, March 22. The current Board members have all served several terms and would be very pleased to welcome some new faces to the executive. The Hall Association is scheduled to provide volunteers at Century Casino on Wednesday and Thursday, April 6 and 7 and there are still a few positions to be filled, anyone who is willing and able to help by filling one of two shifts may call Gerald Rasmussen for more information.
You may continue to call Gerald and Maryann Rasmussen at 403-823-2036 with your news items or, e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
