On Sunday, February 28, the Calgary Venom Sledge Hockey team took on Drumheller’s Boston Pizza Bantam Raptors and Fun Team Vortex Junior Thunder at the Memorial Arena. Drumheller teams also played on the sledges and it proved not to be that easy. Several players and several times, Drumheller players would tip over requiring assistance getting back upright. Using both of their arms grasping shortened hockey sticks, the players propel them- selves across the ice surface. Goalies wear special spiked pads on their gloves, enabling them to move side to side. The goalie net is moved forward several feet enabling the players to maneuver around it. According to organizer Jacquie Kolm, “The Calgary Venom Sledge Hockey teams were excited to showcase their sport in Drumheller.”
