On Wednesday, February 24, the Standard School held their First Annual Spelling Bee Fundraiser. Your Library Manager, Adreena placed first, with Manny’s Mom Sam taking second & Drew Gregory with third. What a fun event, with the proceeds going towards bleachers for the Drama Department at Wheatland Crossing. Congratulations to all the participants! A special effort was made by Mayor Alan Larsen whose first word was “pterodactyl”. He pulled that one off when everyone else had words like cat and dog. Something fishy about that first word…

The next Footcare Clinic at the Senior’s Centre will be held on Thursday, March 10. These clinics are open to the is spearheading an interesting fundraiser in support of the Memory Lane walking/ cycling path project. An area resident has come forward and offered to rent 160 acres of farmland for one dollar per acre to the group. The land could be rented for 1 year. The Memory Lane group would be responsible for cropping the land for the upcoming year (2016). All profits recognized would go toward building the memory lane walking path. The group would like to make this a community fundraiser by getting residents/businesses to help cover input of costs, seed, fertilizer, chemical, fuel, etc. Also the group would like to ask area farmers to consider offering to help seed, spray, and harvest the crop. Anyone who would like to help out can contact one of the society directors. For those who would like to make donations to the project, they can do so by making cheques payable to the Village of Standard, and writing “Memory Lane” in the memo line. This way, tax deductible receipts will be issued. Donations can also be made to a special “Memory Lane” account that has been set up at CHS in Standard. Society directors are Don Sundgaard, Jackie Jensen, Ron Corbiell, Moe Zaleschuk, Alan Larsen and Louise Welen. Watch for the flyers coming out soon in your mailboxes.
