Through­out March, Drumheller RCMP will be con­duct­ing var­i­ous en­force­ment ac­tiv­i­ties in sup­port of Al­berta Trans­porta­tion’s Traf­fic Safety Plan, fo­cus­ing upon oc­cu­pant re­straints.

Pro­tect your­self, fam­ily and friends from un­ex­pected haz­ards you en­counter on the road by en­sur­ing ev­ery oc­cu­pant in­side a mov­ing mo­tor ve­hi­cle is prop­erly re­strained.

Seat­belts are the sin­gle most, cost ef­fec­tive life-sav­ing de­vice we have to pro­tect us in a mo­tor ve­hi­cle col­li­sion. In fact, seat­belts can im­prove your chances of sur­viv­ing a se­ri­ous or fa­tal crash by 50 per cent.

Driv­ers are re­spon­si­ble to en­sure that all pas­sen­gers un­der 16 years of age are prop­erly buck­led in. With­out a booster seat, a child is 3 1/2 times more likely to suf­fer a sig­nif­i­cant in­jury in a col­li­sion. In Al­berta, the fine for fail­ing to wear a seat­belt or not hav­ing a child prop­erly se­cured in a child re­straint sys­tem is $155.
