The Drumheller Mail - - REAL ESTATE - Emily Hollingshead

You’ve probably heard by now about our Reading Maps, and I hope you’ve had a chance to explore them! (If you haven’t, yet, you’ll find them at http://bit.ly/readingmaps) But if you’re looking for books similar to something we haven’t covered, yet, we have another great resource for you called NoveList. You’ll find a button on the left side of our webpage, and all you need is your library card number and PIN to log in. Then get ready to add to your reading list!

You can start by typing the name of a favourite author, book, or series in NoveList’s search box. That will bring up the books you’ve requested, and you can click to see similar titles (“read alikes”), or narrow the list by location, character type, audience, or one of several other characteristics. But don’t stop there. Say you know that you like science fiction books with quirky characters, or you need to write a book report on a historical novel set in another country that features children. Type “science fiction quirky characters” or “historical other country children” into the search box! You’ll get a list of books that you can then narrow down by location, audience, etc. How specific can you get? I asked for a sci fi series written for 9-12 year olds with quirky characters, and got two suggestions to try.

When you find something that sounds interesting, click the goodreads button to read reviews, or “check the library catalogue,” to have NoveList bring up a list of copies that you can get through the Drumheller Public Library. Then you just have to decide whether you want the book, the audiobook, the ebook, the graphic novel…

For more information on programs, events and services at the library, please feel free to visit our website at www. drumhellerlibrary.ca, or call us at 403-823-1371. We’re also on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest!
