Morrin Community Calendar

Hey there...must begin today with a “hat’s off ” to the Morrin Figure Skating Club for putting on a fantastic show on ice this past Sunally, really good! It was a fun, colorful “cartoon crazy” program and as customary was heartily attended by the community. Job well done skaters and helpers and also it is just such a nice thing to have our concession running on a regular basis thanks to the Benci fam all around great afternoon! And another really nice thing I would like to mention is that I saw several Morrin School teachers who came out to support their students and lots and lots of kids cheering on their classmates... pretty cool little corner of the world we live in.

And some other exciting ice news...I noticed on the Morrin School facebook page that the Morrin girls high school curling team recently won the provincial championship...yay! Way to go girls! Congratulations to all the players and coach... you make your school and community proud. The boys did very well too. Curling has become an increasingly popular sport and wouldn’t it be neat to see some of our kids get into Juniors down the road and watch them someday on TV...go for it! Our young teams are showing how skilled and competitive they are at the winter sport...keep it up.

So, moving on to Morrin Lions news...the group will sponsor public skating this coming Sunday March 13 from 2-4 p.m. at the Morrin Arena and they will have hot chocolate and cookies on hand to share with everyone. Then later in the month on Wednesday, March 23, they will host the annual Easter Ham Bingo at the Morrin Community Hall beginning at 6:00 p.m.

And a bit of Morrin Libraryager Carla has some used DVD’s and paperback books to unload for a buck apiece if you want to check that out. Also for parents and kids who need a fun outing, she has a wonderful kids room in the back with a variety of reading material and a few toys. She is hoping to run story time for little ones in the afternoons so moms and dads come on down. You may call her at 403-772-3922 to find out times. The Morrin Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon-6 p.m. and if you purchase a single or family membership you have access to movies, e-books, books, computers, periodicals, printers, fax machine, music and more.

So, we still have the white snowy signs of winter around but it definitely is warming up and melting and feeling more ‘springy.’ My husband Bob and daughter Charly got outside together on Saturday afternoon and spent a couple of hours chipping away the sun-softened ice on our front sidewalk...good job you two...looks great!

And lastly, a heads up to everyone that the hardworking, conscientious 4H multi club members will be out in full force in April to collect recyclables so please save your bottles, cans, plastic milk jugs etc. And, that is all I have for today...cheers!
