The Hussar His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is start­ing the next stage in get­ting our his­tory book ready to print. We are start­ing to edit sto­ries and get them saved un­der the right for­mat. This means that we are still ac­cept­ing sto­ries even a lit­tle af­ter our fi­nal due date. I know it seems like we may be say­ing this over and over again, but we want to make sure ev­ery­one gets their story in so we can make it up to date for ev­ery­one. The Hussar Kinder­garten As­so­ci­a­tion will be work­ing our next casino on June 23 and 24, 2016. Our school has 28 fam­i­lies that at­tend and we have 36 spots to fill. So if you can at­tend the casino, please let Pam Col­lett know. If you and your spouse want to work to­gether, that would work great too!! This casino is called Kinder­garten but it funds all of the spe­cial events that hap­pen in our school. If you can spare some hours to help out, that would be ap­pre­ci­ated.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Hussar Fire­works ringette team on a great sea­son. They made it to the semi­fi­nals in play­offs but couldn’t get past In­dus.

Friends of East Wheat­land are look­ing for farm­ers! We have the seed and we have the chem­i­cal but we need farm­ers to plant 10 acres of canola for the new school. The farmer will get a tax re­ceipt for the dif­fer­ence of their do­nated rev­enue and the in­puts re­ceived from FEW. Dianne Taubert cel­e­brated her 19th birth­day with the stitch and chat ladies on Fe­bru­ary 29. They had birth­day cake and re­fresh­ments. There were 19 ladies there for her 19th birth­day.

The Hussar/Stan­dard tykes had a hard game this past week­end against Beiseker but they are all ex­cited for the game that is com­ing next week­end against their par­ents. This will be their windup from a great year of learn­ing and im­prov­ing for all the kids. Car­ley Bart­man, Tate Filko­hazy and Cale Hager are all on this team.

Hatha Yoga will be start­ing again Wed­nes­day, March 9 at 7:30 at Hussar Com­mu­nity Cen­ter for 8 weeks. This 75 minute class will in­cor­po­rate the phys­i­cal prac­tice as well as med­i­ta­tion and re­lax­ation at the end to pre­pare you for your week! Con­grat­u­la­tions to Eric San­dum and the Strath­more Storm Ban­tam A team for plac­ing first in their tier this year. They re­ceived a bye for the first round of play­offs. This week­end they played both of their games against Oko­toks. Af­ter win­ning both games 5-3 and 3-2, Eric and his team are off to the ban­ner round against Red Deer! Good luck to the Strath­more Storm!!

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Kyle and Shan­non Gor­don, Willy Kirk­patrick and Paige Sev­ert­son on win­ning 2nd in the A Event in the Stan­dard Mixed Bon­spiel.

Two teams from Hussar par­tic­i­pated in the Bas­sano Ladies bon­spiel. Raeanne Knud­sen, Yvonne Thew, Sherri and Jess Sage and Lisa Arm­strong, Tracy An­der­son, Janell Holm and Erica Sage all were there for the week and also en­joyed the “Ship­wrecked” themed ban­quet.

Con­grat­u­la­tions our $50 Cash Cal­en­dar ticket win­ners. They are Rus­sell Nail, Linda Epp, Janelle Moss and Jackie Cut­ter. All of the $150 win­ners are Con­nie and Clay Wil­liams and Sis Munro.

The Wheat­land AA Midget Chiefs hosted and won the South Cen­tral Al­berta Hockey League South Divi­sion Tour­na­ment this past week­end in Strath­more. Mur­ray Brown, pres­i­dent of the Wheat­land Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion pre­sented them with the South Divi­sion Cham­pi­onship Ban­ner. They will now play the win­ners of the north divi­sion (Red Deer) in a best out of 3 se­ries start­ing Thurs­day, March 10 in Strath­more. Lo­cal boys on the team are Ja­son Hob­son, Wacy San­dum and Mack Clark.

Randy and Wendy Kaiser trav­elled back to Hous­ton with Garry and Linda Kaiser on Mon­day, Fe­bru­ary 22 spend­ing a cou­ple of days there be­fore head­ing to Roatan. They met up with Tom and Angie Arm­strong, Earl and Dawn Brin­ton, and Fred and Yvette Rice spend­ing a week of R and R. They vis­ited the Char­mont Bilin­gual Academy - orig­i­nally the Mor­gan Jayne Foun­da­tion and de­liv­ered some much needed sup­plies for the or­phans and teach­ers. We took mar­bles, balls, pa­per, pen­cils, sticky notes, glow sticks, for­mula, tylenol, stom­ach reme­dies and hand de­liv­ered them to Jan Nelson, the founder. They have next to noth­ing and were so grate­ful for what we gave them - thanks to all who do­nated things for us to take. They cur­rently have 50 kids there with 50 more on the wait­ing list. They also feed the teach­ers and all the kids break­fast and lunch - for some the only food they get. The money we left there will feed them all for a cou­ple of weeks. We took in an in­land is­land tour, a boat tour of a few is­lands and got in some sun, snorkelling and some ham­mock time. It truly is one of the most beau­ti­ful beaches out there.

Randy and Wendy Kaiser took their har­vest help out to Drumheller for sup­per on March 6. A lit­tle late but bet­ter late than never.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Macken­zie Holm and her team, the Strath­more U16B ringette for win­ning the Zone 2 Ban­ner against Cochrane. To fin­ish off their sea­son the girls will be head­ing to Medicine Hat March 11-13 for Provin­cials.

Carey Taubert with Sonya Elias, Heather Crook, Aunt Fay & Stacy Hain­stock flew to New Or­leans from Fe­bru­ary 28 – March 4 to cel­e­brate Heather’s “big” birth­day. They stayed at Place D’Armes Ho­tel which dates back to 1820. They en­joyed a city tour, swamp tour, vis­ited the “Oak Al­ley Plan­ta­tion”, had lunch aboard a steam­boat and cruised the Mis­sis­sippi, en­joyed the Gar­den District and a cemetary tour, did an evening ghost tour, over­dosed on “Hur­ri­canes”, loved the nightly lo­cal jazz mu­sic on French­men Street, shopped on Mag­a­zine street, and loved the lo­cal cui­sine in­clud­ing fried al­li­ga­tor, seafood gumbo, craw­fish, shrimp cre­ole, oys­ters, po boy sand­wiches, grits and es­pe­cially the beignets! Will def­i­nitely be go­ing back!
