What a crazy week of weather it has been! Rain and then snow then melt­ing then gloom! Only a cou­ple of more weeks un­til spring! Nazareth Lutheran Church in­vites you to Good Fri­day wor­ship on March 25 at 7:00 pm and then Easter morn­ing ser­vice on March 27 at 10:30 am. Please note that there will not be a Maundy Thurs­day ser­vice this year as it co­in­cides with the Rose­bud Mas­ter­works Choir’s per­for­mance at Knox United in Drumheller. Come wor­ship with us at Knox and en­joy “The Seven Last Words of Christ” by Dubois. Per­for­mance is at 7:30 pm.

Miriam and James Bekker­ing are de­lighted to an­nounce the ar­rival of Lau­ren Anne on March 1, 2016. Proud and happy grand­par­ents are Lawrence and Anne Jensen of Stan­dard and Hessina Bekker­ing of Taber. Con­grat­u­la­tions to all on the safe ar­rival of baby Lau­ren!

Friends of East Wheat­land is look­ing to put bleach­ers in the new gym­na­sium. $200/ seat will get your name on a plaque. Please think of do- nat­ing, the money needs to be in place be­fore the bleach­ers are or­dered in April!

The Stan­dard Fig­ure Skat­ing Club will hold its an­nual car­ni­val com­ing up on March 13 from 1-3 pm. It is su­per­hero themed this year. There will be a bake sale and raf­fle ta­ble also. Come sup­port the kids and in­dulge in some yummy treats!

Any­body with in­ter­est is in­vited to the Stan­dard Hall board’s An­nual Gen­eral Meet­ing on April 6 at 7:30. New mem­bers are needed and two ex­ec­u­tive po­si­tions are avail­able. There is also a free pi­ano avail­able. Please con­tact a hall board mem­ber for more in­for­ma­tion. The Stan­dard Playschool is look­ing to hire a per­ma­nent teacher to start April 5, 2016. Our tem­po­rary ma­ter­nity leave po­si­tion ends at the end of March and our teacher on ma­ter­nity leave isn’t com­ing back. Playschool classes, for the re­main­der of this year, are Tues­day and Thurs­day morn­ings from 9:00-11:45. They hope that for the 2016/2017 school year there will be enough stu­dents reg­is­tered to run two classes, two times per week Tues­day/ Thurs­day sched­ule. The Stan­dard-Hussar tyke team is hav­ing a buddy day on March 9 at 4:30 at the Stan­dard arena. If you have kids ages 4-6 that would be in­ter­ested in play­ing hockey next year, come have them try it out. They need to have all the proper equip­ment.

The Hope Bridges So­ci­ety an­nounced its Win­ter 2016 Projects and Work­shops, in­clud­ing a stop at the Stan­dard Li­brary. The pro­ject will be begin­ner and in­ter­me­di­ate en­tan­gle, a re­lax­ing and easy to learn repet­i­tive pat­tern art. The date of the work­shop is March 15 and 22. The NLC youth’s next fundraiser will be a mega garage sale to be held on Sports Day at the church. They are seek­ing do­na­tions of items to sell. Items can be dropped off at the manse next to the church (1002 1st street west) or please call Pas­tor Dyanna (403-644-3998) if you would like them picked up. As al­ways, your do­na­tions and sup­port are ap­pre­ci­ated! We are al­most on our way to PEI!

The next Foot­care Clinic at the Se­nior’s Cen­tre will be held on March 10. Th­ese clin­ics are open to the pub­lic and are con­ducted by a li­censed prac­ti­cal nurse Foot Care Spe­cial­ist. Stan­dard Com­mu­nity Chest has be­gun can­vass­ing in the vil­lage. The Com­mu­nity Chest is cel­e­brat­ing 60 years as a char­i­ta­ble or­ga­ni­za­tion. It was cre­ated in Fe­bru­ary of 1956. Thank you for your con­tin­ued sup­port. Watch for can­vassers com­ing to your door!
