The Hussar His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is start­ing the next stage in get­ting our his­tory book ready to print. We are start­ing to edit sto­ries and get them saved un­der the right for­mat. This means that we are still ac­cept­ing sto­ries even a lit­tle af­ter our fi­nal due date. I know it seems like we may be say­ing this over and over again, but we want to make sure ev­ery­one gets their story in so we can make it up to date for ev­ery­one. Friends of East Wheat­land are look­ing for farm­ers! We have the seed and we have the chem­i­cal but we need farm­ers to plant 10 acres of canola for the new school. The farmer will get a tax re­ceipt for the dif­fer­ence of their do­nated rev­enue and the in­puts re­ceived from FEW. Chi­nook Fi­nan­cial in Hussar will be host­ing a cloth­ing drive in sup­port of the Kid­ney Foun­da­tion of South­ern Al­berta and the Wheat­land Food Bank. You can drop of clothes, jew­elry, out­er­wear, shoes, hand­bags, draperies, linens, yarn, pat­terns and sleep­ing bags in good used and cleaned con­di­tion to the Hussar Branch of Chi­nook Fi­nan­cial Mon­day to Fri­day from 9-5 un­til April 7. For se­cu­rity rea­sons please do not leave bags out­side of the build­ing or in the en­try way, th­ese items will be thrown away. We will also be do­ing a food drive for the Wheat­land & District Food Ham­per, so please feel free to drop in with any non-per­ish­able food items as well. Sev­eral of the Fraser fam­i­lies trav­elled to Bas­sano, Sat. March 5, to help cel­e­brate Mil­dred Fraser’s 103rd birth­day. She lives at Play­fair Lodge and is very well and takes part in most ac­tiv­i­ties. Many rel­a­tives and friends were there to visit with her also and she thor­oughly en­joyed her day.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to this week’s cash cal­en­dar win­ners. $50 win­ners are Gary An­der­son, Paul Bent­ley, Ross Peake, Daryl and Melissa Schaf­fer and Ei­nar David­son. $150 win­ners are Rox­anne Hale and Shirley Watt.

Mother goose will be held on Mon­day, March 21 at the Hussar Li­brary at 10:00 a.m. Bring your Kids aged 0-5 for some Easter crafts and fun.

District pub­lic speak­ing was held on March 12, 2016. Erin Slemko and Katie Taubert both com­peted in the in­ter­me­di­ate level and both did great. They came up against some re­ally tough com­pe­ti­tion so will not be mov­ing on. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Ja­son Slemko who placed first and Kylie Bishop who placed 2nd in the ju­nior level. They will both be com­pet­ing in re­gion­als on March 19 in Strath­more. Good luck to both!

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Emma Arm­strong and Larissa Hiebert and their Strath­more Storm Fe­male Ban­tam team on bring­ing home the ban­ner. The com­mu­nity was for­tu­nate enough to be able to see th­ese two girls play the first game of the round in our home town arena. Con­grats girls! So ex­cit­ing for you both. This team will also be trav­el­ling to Hin­ton on the week­end of March 19 to par­tic­i­pate in Provin­cials. Good luck girls!

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Ad­di­son Muller and Kayla San­dum and their Strath­more Storm Fe­male Midget team on bring­ing home the ban­ner. Game two was played in Leth­bridge and was all tied up at the end of the game. With a 4 on 4, 5 min­utes over­time, Sarah Hoff scored the win­ning goal with 1:20 left. Good job girls!!

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Eric San­dum and his Strath­more Storm Ban­tam Tier 1 Team on bring­ing home the ban­ner. The se­ries went to three games and The Storm cel­e­brated their win in their home arena. Good luck to the team who will be head­ing to Beau­mont on the week­end of March 19 to play in provin­cials.

Brady and Jess Kaiser, An­gela Treacy and Jess’ dad, Alex McCorquin­dale curled in a Fun­spiel on March 5. They tied for 1st place. Con­grat­u­la­tions to you all. While they curled, the kids played at the Di­nosaur mu­seum, the sus­pen­sion bridge, the rec cen­tre and all around Drumheller with Nicky Faye.

Macken­zie Holm and her team, the Strath­more Ice spent the week­end in Medicine Hat play­ing in the U16B Provin­cials. The team had an awe­some week­end play­ing some very com­pet­i­tive ringette. The girls played hard to win 4 out of 5 games and placed 5th out of 19 teams. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Macken­zie and her team.
