Craigmyle Cardinal

Hasn’t this been a record winter? I could say that roses are coming up in Craigmyle; well, not exactly roses but I hear that tulips are showing their heads. At our house, we somehow did not get our garden rototilled last fall. Not to be dismayed as the garden was rototilled on March 12 which was definitely an early record for us. The “man” reported no frost and stated that the ground worked up very well and was very mellow.

Enough said about the mild winter. Our community does have some events coming up; you might want to mark your calendar with these dates.

The March pancake breakfast was well attended and a great time was had by all. The next pancake breakfast will be held on April 3. See you all there.

The next meeting of the Craigmyle Historic Society will be held on Tuesday, April 5 in the church basement beginning at 7:00 pm. The CHS is hoping to increase its membership and welcomes any to come out to one of our meetings. A guest did come out to the March meeting and immediately volunteered to help with upcoming events. Hopefully, we have a new member!

Sunday, April 17 is the time to come to Craigmyle to enjoy a ham supper with all the trimmings including a superb dessert bar. The supper will be held from 4:30-7:00 pm in the church basement. All are welcome.

Looking ahead to the next month – the ever so popular Mother’s Day Tea will be held on Wednesday, May 4 beginning at 2:00 pm in the church basement. A great lunch, program, favours and door prizes have been planned for the event. The theme for the tea this year is “Mother Goose.”

The Delia “Dream Team” is a group of highly motivated Delia High School students working hard to raise funds for an excursion called “Canada and the World Wars”. This group of youth plan to tour various places in Europe where Canada made a difference in the World Wars. Their trip will include places such as Berlin in Germany; the Vimy and Normandy regions and Paris in France; Amsterdam and other areas.

A fundraising project in place is a Ham supper on April 30 beginning at 5:30 in the Delia Community Hall followed by a comedy hypnotist show at 7:30. Tickets are available from the Delia School at 403364-3777 or Debi Olmstead at 403-854-6507.

The first printing of the Craigmyle Centennial Book of Photo Memories is out and all copies are spoken for. The full colour glossy paged book is available for viewing in the church basement. Several orders have come in so, in all likelihood, a second printing will be ordered. The price just covers the cost of the book and shipping. Books can be ordered through the Historic Society. If you are interested in purchasing a book, call Bev at 665-2492.

Birthday greetings go out to Randi Eggins on April 2; Madison Alderdice on April 3; Edith McDonough on April 5 and McKenzie Olmstead on April 7. Happy anniversary to Wayne and Lorraine DeGiano on April 4. Have a great day!
