The Hussar Curl­ing Club will be host­ing the Mixed Bon­spiel on April 3-9. If you want to put a team in please call Barry Kaiser at 403-787-2489 or Kevin Slemko at 403-7872707. There will be a sup­per and dance on April 9 at the Com­mu­nity hall. Ev­ery­one is wel­come to at­tend.

The Strath­more ban­tam girls along with Emma Arm­strong and Larissa Hiebert played the best hockey they have played all year and lost in the semi-fi­nal round at Provin­cials in Hin­ton, Al­berta. Coaches and par­ents are ex­tremely proud of the heart and re­silience that the girls showed in this tour­na­ment. They fin­ished first in their pool to go to semi-fi­nal. Con­grats on a great week­end to the team.

Brad, Paige, Car­son and Grady went on a quick overnight trip to Ed­mon­ton to watch an Oil­ers game at Rex­all Place. This is the last sea­son the Oil­ers will play at Rex­all, so it was fun for the kids to get to see them play there be­fore they move to the new arena! The Oil­ers won 2-0 over the Canucks.

On Satur­day, March 19, Kylie Bishop and Ja­son Slemko par­tic­i­pated in the 4H Re­gional Speak­ing Com­pe­ti­tion in Strath­more. They both gave ex­cel­lent speeches against some very strong com­peti­tors. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Ja­son for win­ning third place and to both speak­ers for ad­vanc­ing to this level.

Don and Kay Fraser have been trav­el­ling around the prov­ince fol­low­ing their grand­son Grif­fen ( Jamie and Dee’s son) and his AAA Ban­tam hockey team in their pur­suit of a pro­vin­cial cham­pi­onship which they won on Satur­day, March 19, in Leth­bridge. Their last op­po­si­tion was Sher­wood Park and they won the best of five se­ries in three very ex­cit­ing games, 3-0. 4-3, 4-3. They will now go to Westerns in Oko­toks at the end of the month to com­pete against, B.C., Saskatchewan, Man­i­toba and the host team of Oko­toks.

The Hussar His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is start­ing the next stage in get­ting our his­tory book ready to print. We are start­ing to edit sto­ries and get them saved un­der the right for­mat. This means that we are still ac­cept­ing sto­ries even a lit­tle af­ter our fi­nal due date. I know it seems like we may be say­ing this over and over again, but we want to make sure ev­ery­one gets their story in so we can make it up to date for ev­ery­one. Friends of East Wheat­land are look­ing for farm­ers! We have the seed and we have the chem­i­cal but we need farm­ers to plant 10 acres of canola for the new school. The farmer will get a tax re­ceipt for the dif­fer­ence of their do­nated rev­enue and the in­puts re­ceived from FEW. Chi­nook Fi­nan­cial in Hussar will be host­ing a cloth­ing drive in sup­port of the Kid­ney Foun­da­tion of South­ern Al­berta and the Wheat­land Food Bank. You can drop of clothes, jew­elry, out­er­wear, shoes, hand­bags, draperies, linens, yarn, pat­terns and sleep- ing bags in good used and cleaned con­di­tion to the Hussar Branch of Chi­nook Fi­nan­cial Mon­day to Fri­day from 9-5 un­til April 7. For se­cu­rity rea­sons please do not leave bags out­side of the build­ing or in the en­try way, th­ese items will be thrown away. We will also be do­ing a food drive for the Wheat­land & District Food Ham­per, so please feel free to drop in with any non-per­ish­able food items as well. The Hussar An­nual Com­mu­nity meet­ing will be held April 10, 2016 at the Hussar Com­mu­nity Hall at 7:30 p.m. Please send your pres­i­dent, trea­surer and casino co­or­di­na­tor of your group to re­port on your fi­nan­cial sta­tus and plans.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Rock­y­ford Rush ringette team on win­ning their City League Cham­pi­onship for the se­cond year in a row this past Wed­nes­day. They move on to provin­cials this week­end March 25-27 in Rock­y­ford! Brit­tany Weg­ner, Beth Lein and Deb­bie Knud­sen all play on the team. Con­grats girls!!

Eric San­dum and his Ban­tam ‘A’ team were in provin­cials in Beau­mont this week­end. 2-1-1 record. They ended up tied with Fort Saskatchewan for a spot in the semi­fi­nals. But, un­for­tu­nately they had lost to them in round robin so that was the end of the sea­son. Great week­end though with won­der­ful team­mates and fun par­ents.

On Wed., March 16, the Con­nect First Credit Union (in­clud­ing the divi­sion of Chi­nook Fi­nan­cial) held their An­nual Gen­eral Meet­ing at the TELUS Spark Cen­tre in Cal­gary. Con­nie, Betty, Lo­rilee and Carol at­tended rep­re­sent­ing our Hussar branch. Con­grat­u­la­tions to Carey Taubert who was elected to the ex­ec­u­tive of the board in the Board Sec­re­tary po­si­tion.

Barry Kaiser, Ross Peake, Kevin Taubert & Randy Kaiser curled in the Men’s Bon­spiel in Strath­more from March 16-20 end­ing up 3rd in the D event out of 36 teams.
