Verdant Valley Eye Opener
Ron and Leslie and I spent 6 days in Camrose and Edmonton last week. On Thursday, March 10 we enjoyed a trip down memory lane when we attended a 50th anniversary concert of the Irish Rovers at the Bailey Theatre in Camrose. Four of the eight performers were from the original Irish Rovers group and even though they are in their seventies they still have tons of energy and spirit. We heard some of the old favourites and some new music. They are on their final World Tour. Friday we went to Edmonton where we stayed at a hotel and had visits from all eight grandchildren and their partners and also one of the great grandchildren. Karen took Ron and Leslie to an Edmonton Oil Kings and Calgary Hitmen hockey game at Rexall Place. It is a great chance to visit with the family who are all in Edmonton and Camrose now.
The Verdant Valley and Dorcas Women’s Institute met at the home of Holly Guterson on Wednesday, March 9. Guest speaker was Sharla Boyko from Growing Opportunities. This organization assists mothers and families in making choices so that mother and baby will be healthy before, during and after delivery. The Institute has supported this program for several years donating baby items for New Born Babies at the Drumheller Hospital. This program is financially supported by Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program and the Public Health Agency of Canada, Primary Care Network. Main business of the meeting was planning of the upcoming Constituency Conference in Trochu on April 23. Roll call was a new born baby item and baby pictures of the members, a very enlightening experience since they have changed a lot! Next meeting will be at the home of Percy Poland on April 13 with roll call Spring Cleaning for Victim Services.
