Hello Hand Hills… Enjoy Spring as it is officially here. There are calves on the ground at some of the local ranches and hockey is winding down so those are sure signs of a change of season.

Another sure sign of Spring is the Chuckwagon Tarp Auction for the Calgary Stampede. The end result of the auction was better than anticipated given the state of the economy. Again this year we will see Colt Cosgrave sporting the canvas of High River Autoplex, a sponsor that has been with him for many years. Go Polka Dots Go!

As for hockey, the past couple of weeks have been extremely busy as the local boys were involved in League Playoffs and Provincials. The Hanna Pee Wee’s were in Rimbey for their Provincials and although they didn’t make it to the finals, the experience is something that they will remember for a long time.

Jean Keay was sporting a Hanna Colts Jersey as she cheered on her grandsons. The Bantams headed off to High Level for Provincials and she also had a grandson in the Provincials in Rimbey. What an exciting time for this family.

The Hanna Novice Colts won their league by beating out High Country in two games. The final game was played in Delia and the arena was packed with parents, grandparents, aunts, cousins and friends. What a fitting end to a great season for this team. Sam Vredegoor and Lincoln Nelner were on this team! Way to go boys. Larry and Lyla Nelner and Tony and I reminisced a lot during the winter on past hockey travels and what the future holds for us on the hockey trail. We look forward to many more years of hockey travel.

Hockey wasn’t the only sport that had Hand Hills kids travelling for Provincials. The Hanna Hawks Senior Boys Basketball took JC Charyk to this elite spot for the first time in 34 years. They travelled to La Crete to compete and even though they did not win the title they gained a lot of experience. Go Hawks Go! Reo Raugust was on this team and his mother Connie Gammie travelled with the team to take in the excitement.

Remember to mark the 3rd of April on your calendar for the Work in Progress Open House at the Club. Come on down and see what has been done with the renovations. One o’clock is the time to be there.

Have you signed up for the Jim Hole Gardening Session that the Verdant Valley Community is hosting on April 16. It is time to do so!

Don’t know about you but we are going to take in the Brett Butt Comedy Night in Delia on the 16th of April. We loved him in Corner Gas so are excited to see what his comedy routine has to offer.

Shirleylee Bercier, fiancé of David Shields, will be hosting a Life Skills Workshop for Women starting April 4. This will be a 7- 8 week, one hour a week course at her house and is titled Seven Keys to My Empowered Life. Please phone her and register if you are interested. 403 665 2296

Earlier this year Barb Guidolin and Ella Beck travelled to Mexico to spend some time with Barb’s daughter Lindsay, son-in-law and grandson. I heard that they had a great trip. Ella came back early and Barb stayed for an extended time to enjoy more family time. Glad to hear that Ella got her wish to go somewhere warm!

As you may be able to tell I am really short of news…Help!

Till next week…enjoy the spring weather and Happy Easter!
