Con­grat­u­la­tions are in or­der for both Bran­don Duf­fala and El­iz­a­beth Nys­trom in run­ning ex­cel­lent cam­paigns for vil­lage coun­cil­lors! Thank you to all res­i­dents who voted and made their voices heard. The re­sults are in from last week’s bi-elec­tion. The un­of­fi­cial re­sults show a vote of 63 to 27 in favour of Bran­don Duf­fala as the new Town Coun­cil­lor. We were sad­dened to of the pass­ing of a long Stan­dard res­i­dent. KenLarsen passed away on 8, 2016 in Strath­more. learn time neth April Ken is sur­vived by his wife, Eve­lyn; son Emory; and daugh­ter Linda (Mark). Ken and Eve­lyn farmed in the Stan­dard area un­til they re­tired and moved to Strath­more. He was al­ways ac­tive in the com­mu­nity, pro­vid­ing a life­time of ser­vice in many ca­pac­i­ties in­clud­ing as a county coun­cil­lor and Reeve of the County of Wheat­land. He spent many years in the East­ern Star and was once Wor­thy Grand Pa­tron. Ken was also proud to be a mar­riage com­mis­sioner and presided over sev­eral mar­riages in the area. A fu­neral ser­vice will be held on Wed­nes­day, April 13, 2016 at Hope Com­mu­nity Covenant Church at 11:00 a.m.

The black dog saga con­tin­ues! “Elvis” is still at large, still hurt, and still scared of peo­ple. There have been sev­eral cats sniff­ing around the hu­mane trap, where Elvis’s med­i­ca­tion (tran­quil­izer) is. Please make sure you are keep­ing your cats at home! If they get into this med­i­ca­tion, the dosage could kill a cat! The lat­est cat has been a long haired black cat.

The Stan­dard Mu­nic­i­pal Li­brary is host­ing its sec­ond an­nual Golf Tour­na­ment in Bas­sano on July 15. For more in­for­ma­tion con­tact Mark or El­iz­a­beth at Gates Agen­cies, if you have a team you want to en­ter or are able to spon­sor a hole!

Nazareth Lutheran Church in­vites you to Salad Sun­day on April 17 fol­low­ing wor­ship at 10:30 am. FaithLife Fi­nan­cial has gra­ciously ex­tended to us a match­ing grant of $500 and there will be a free will of­fer­ing. Put your salad mak­ing skills to the test and come to sup­port our youth’s trip to CLAY in Au­gust in PEI.

It’s that time of year again Ladies! The an­nual Stan­dard Lionettes Ladies Night will be held April 16 at the Stan­dard Com­mu­nity Hall. Make sure you’re ready to boo­gie in your disco fin­ery! This year the Lionettes are go­ing to do­nate all the money they raise at Ladies Night to help build a play­ground at the new school.

The NLC youth’s next fundraiser will be a mega garage sale to be held on Sports Day at the church. They are seek­ing do­na­tions of items to sell. Items can be dropped off at the manse next to the church (1002 1st street west) or please call Pas­tor Dyanna (403-644-3998) if you would like them picked up. As al­ways, your do­na­tions and sup­port are ap­pre­ci­ated! We are al­most on our way to PEI!
