The opportunity to choose books for themselves is a great way to help encourage children’s interest in reading, and we’ve got a new tool to help! Visit our Early Reader section (next to the DVDs in the Children’s Corner), and you’ll find these books are now colour coded. Parents and children can use our posted guide to choose the right reading level (Starting to Read, Reading Alone, Ready for Early Chapter Books, and Strong Reader), then browse that section to find books that are just right – a bit of a challenge, but not so hard young readers will get discouraged.

Don’t skip the other sections, though – even adults enjoy an easy book sometimes, and a challenging book a child really wants to read can be a great motivator to build his or her reading skills!
