Mon­day In­ter­net out­age af­fects Drumheller cus­tomers

Many res­i­dents through­out the area Mon­day lost con­nec­tion with the In­ter­net.

Shortly af­ter noon many res­i­dents and busi­nesses were with­out their In­ter­net con­nec­tion. While some were in­con­ve­nienced by not be­ing able to par­take in so­cial me­dia chatter, oth­ers saw their work load grind to a stand­still.

The out­age af­fected Xplor- net, Bell, Rogers, Shaw, Axia, Ne­tago, Re­al­ity Bytes, Aerial In­ter­net Ser­vice. In the area of 10,000 cus­tomers af­fected by the out­age.

The Mail has learned from John Shoff of Re­al­ity Bytes that an ac­ci­dent may have caused mul­ti­ple fi­bre op­tic ca­bles to be sev­ered in the Strath­more area.

Shortly be­fore 10 p.m., a tem­po­rary span has been put in place restor­ing ser­vice to the area.

For some it was a mi­nor in­con­ve­nience, for other work was slowed by an In­ter­net out­age on Mon­day af­ter­noon and into the evening. A break in fiber op­tic lines near Strath­more caused an out­age af­fect­ing lo­cal cus­tomers.
