The Spring Fling was a big hit once again this year. The silent Auction tables were full with great things to bid on and the live auction of delicious pies and desserts went really well raising an amazing $12000.00! The supper was delicious thanks to the Ag Society members who cooked up a great steak for everyone with baked potato and all the fixings and salads. Well done, everyone, and a big thank you to all the community members who supported the Ag Society by buying and bidding on the items.
The Ag Society will go quiet for a while now as the members see to their own work of seeding and moving cattle out to pasture. The next event on their schedule will be Sports days in July.
This coming Saturday the Helmer clan will be in at the hall to celebrate Linda’s 70th birthday. The festivities will start at 2:00 p.m. and they request only your attendance not any presents.
The Drop-In should be under construction in the next couple weeks. The roof will be repaired and the building will be secure and dry once again for many years to come. I would like to send out a big thank you to all the organizations that gave us a donation to make this happen. We hope that the community will use this building for their smaller functions in the future. It is a nice comfortable size for a crowd of 25 to 30 people with fun things for families to do such as playing pool, shuffle board, darts, ping pong, cards and with a small kitchen and handicap access, it makes it ideal. Keep us in mind for your next small event. Rent is very reasonable.
The Library is hosting its 4th craft night on April 20 & 21 at 7:00 p.m. We have invited in a guest to show us how to restore and paint wood furniture. Laya Montgomery has created some excellent pieces and we would love to figure out how she does this so if you are curious as well, come and join us on Wednesday and Thursday evening, April 20 and 21 for a couple hours with a small piece of furniture that you would like to experiment on. This will be held at the Drop-In to give us enough space to work.
Dariel McNaughton called this morning to let me know that the History books are well on their way to completion so the Historical Society has decided to host a launching party on June 10 at the Hall. There will be supper from 5 to 7 with a small ceremony to follow and all the books will be available on that day. Everyone is encouraged to get their book at this event. There will be an additional cost to mail a book out to someone so it would be great to come in and get a book early so if you happen to be travelling during the summer, you might be able to get the book to your relative without bearing the cost of mailing it.
This is something for those kids that are getting restless in school this spring:
Do you know what the difference is between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test then taught a lesson. Something to think about.
Have a great week.
