After weeks of planning and anticipation the Horticulture Workshop was held on Saturday, April 16 at the Verdant Valley Community Center with 115 attending . It was a beautiful day for this event and the Verdant Valley Ag Society was very pleased with the attendance. Tim Schowalter spoke in the morning on the natural history of the area including the Hand Hills area. Lunch was catered to by Day Lenfesty and his volunteers from the Hand Hills and was a delicious beef on homemade buns with all the trimmings. The afternoon speaker was Jim Hole from Hole’s Green House in Edmonton or St Albert. He is a well-known Certified Aborist and Horticulturist and spoke on “Garden Myths”. These are generally held ideas about plants and gardening that are not based on fact. He then answered many questions from the audience. The Ag Society appreciate the support of the Starland County for this event and also the support of all the local news reporters who promoted the event in their news columns. It was a very successful undertaking.
