Drumheller In­sti­tu­tion in­mate dies in hos­pi­tal

Drumheller In­sti­tu­tion of­fi­cials have re­ported that an in­mate died at the Drumheller Health Cen­tre while in their cus­tody.

Rodney Hirsekorn, 60, passed away at the hos­pi­tal on Tues­day, April 19.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hirsekorn had been serv­ing an in­de­ter­mi­nate sen­tence since De­cem­ber 15, 2006 for sec­ond de­gree mur­der. The in­mate’s next of kin have been no­ti­fied of his death. As in all cases in­volv­ing the death of an in­mate, the po­lice and the coro­ner have been no­ti­fied and the Cor­rec­tional Ser­vice of Canada will re­view the cir­cum­stances of the in­ci­dent.

Win­nipeg Po­lice Ser­vice ar­rested Hirsekorn in March 2005 af­ter he walked into a po­lice sta­tion and con­fessed he'd harmed his mother and sis­ter.

Po­lice found the bod­ies of 78-year-old Kath­leen Hirsekorn and 44-year-old Colleen Hirsekorn in their home in Du­luth Bay Win­nipeg.
