Sunday began with a promise when large wet fluffy flakes of snow began to descend on our dry ground – then abruptly quit. Even white moisture would be welcome right now.

There are several events coming up in Craigmyle this coming week. You might want to mark your calendar so you don’t miss them!

Sunday, May 1 is the next pancake breakfast in the church basement from 9:00 - 11:00 am. Come out and enjoy a great spring breakfast with your friends and neighbours.

Wednesday, May 4 is the no-charge ever so popular Mother’s Day Tea in the church basement beginning at 2:00 pm. This year’s theme is “Mother Goose”; be prepared for entertainment, a fine lunch, a favour for each guest to take home, and the opportunity to win a door prize. All ladies from Craigmyle and hinterland are invited to attend. Come out for an afternoon of fun and laughter!

Our beloved Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 90th birthday this past week. What a milestone that is! She is an example of growing old with competence and grace. That being said, Craigmyle also has folk who are 90 plus; have withstood the ravages of time and still have competence and grace. The following come to mind: Mable Burrows, Joyce Brinkman, Betty Rew, Hughie MacDonald, Ludy Moe, Charlie Thompson, and Melvin Metzger. My apologies for any I may have overlooked. Our local 90 + folk have not received international recognition, but this community recognizes and appreciates their long term faithfulness and commitment to our small piece of the Canadian prairie.

One in this notable group, Charlie Thompson, will celebrate his 90 years on May 7 along with his fine and good sized family. One day of celebration is never enough for Charlie so the following day, May 8, he will be available to receive your good wishes at an open house at the Delia Drop In Center from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to come out and spend time with Charlie and his family. Knowing Charlie, he will likely be up for another celebration the next day!

The Craigmyle Historic Society will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Monday, May 16 at 7:00 pm in the church basement. All are welcome to attend.

Birthday greetings go out to Marylin Norlie on April 29 and Tim Lenfesty on May 4. Happy Anniversary to Barney and Sandy Irwin on April 30. Have a great day!
