Spe­cial Olympics ski team en­joys pro­duc­tive sea­son

Drumheller Spe­cial Olympic had a pro­duc­tive sea­son train­ing lo­cally and on the slopes.

Coach Martin McSween re­counted the sea­son where two Drumheller ath­letes Mitchell Pen­ning­ton, and Jay Dekeyser, par­tic­i­pated in dry­land train­ing weekly at the Drumheller Com­mu­nity Fa­cil­ity from Novem­ber, 2015 to March 30, 2016.

Quinn Delisle, joined with the ath­letes in Fe­bru­ary and March. The team com­pleted two on snow train­ing days at the Nakiska Ski Re­sort on Satur­day Jan­uary, 30 and Satur­day, March 19, 2016. The team en­joyed pos­i­tive weather and great snow con­di­tions at the re­sort this year.

McSe­ween said Drumheller ath­letes and coaches were very grate­ful for the kind gen­eros­ity of a spon­sored van by Drumheller West­ern GM, for trips to and from Drumheller to Nakiska Ski Re­sort.

McSween said the team was also sup­ported by Pat Scat­te­good and Colleen Pen­ning­ton were in­valu­able with their be­hind the scenes en­cour- age­ment. He is also grate­ful for the staff at the Bad­lands Com­mu­nity Fa­cil­ity for their sup­port dur­ing train­ing. Joa Markotic also sup­ported the team at the March 19 on snow train­ing .
