Delia Senior News
Just when Delia gardeners were getting excited about Spring, we received a late Spring snow shower this morning. Well, we need the moisture and there is still plenty of time for seeding.
The celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday was a great success in Delia last Thursday. Nearly seventy ladies (and a few gentlemen) were at the Delia Drop In Centre to participate in the Celebration. I have never seen the Drop In Centre look so lovely, kudos to the Historical Society for their expertise in decorating the hall, plus the tables beautifully set with Royal Albert china and fine silver. Nearly seventy ladies attended, dressed for the occasion, all wearing decorated hats. A setting designed for royalty indeed!
The winner of the best hat contest was Judy Benuniak from Drumheller, runners up were Pat Johnson from, Hanna and Robby Walker from Drumheller. All the ladies have to be congratulated on their creativity in decorating hats, some of the hats were amazing!
The Delia Historical Society would like to thank some very special people who helped make the Queen’s tea such a great day which was enjoyed by all. Marilyn Downey for creating the invitations and posters, Eleanor Fair, Pat Hoover, Carol Sisley and Bev Hall for preparing the food and preparing the Drop In for the party. Dallas Raessler for her excellent representation of the Queen, she looked beautiful, and for making her own gorgeous cake! (loved that royal wave, Dallas!) To Donna Issac for entertaining our guests playing some old time tunes on the piano. Jill Clayholt for taking photos of all the lovely ladies in their hats, and to Dolores Pearson and Jill Clayholt for washing and drying all the fine china. To all the others who helped during the day and to John Rogers for being a good sport and helping pour the tea and coffee. Thank you to all the ladies who attended and wore such lovely hats.
