The Rock­y­ford Vol­un­teer Fire­fighter’s will be host­ing their An­nual Fundraiser on Satur­day, May 28. There will be a surf & turf sup­per, an auc­tion and “Duel­ing Pianos” as the en­ter­tain­ment for the evening. Tick­ets are avail­able from any fire­fighter or from Rock­y­ford Agen­cies or Rock­y­ford Gro­cery Store. Things get started with cock­tails at 5:30 p.m. with sup­per and en­ter­tain­ment to fol­low. Thank­ing you in ad­vance for your con­tin­ued sup­port.

Birth­day greet­ings to those of you cel­e­brat­ing this week are sent to; Cal­lum Koller, Doris Ken­ney, Neav Sharp­ley (Happy 16th), Owen Dahm, Randy Tooth and Matt Frayn. Happy An­niver­sary to my hus­band Wayne, and to any­one else cel­e­brat­ing a spe­cial oc­ca­sion this week.

Just a re­minder that the Rock­y­ford School stu­dents will have school on Fri­day, May 27. Hope ev­ery­one en­joys the Ladies Gala this Satur­day evening. The Pix­i­la­tion work­shop with Quick­Draw An­i­ma­tion So­ci­ety on April 30 has been re-sched­uled to Satur­day, May 14. Any­one be­tween the ages of 8 and 18 who is in­ter­ested in par­tic­i­pat­ing in this day-long event is in­vited to reg­is­ter at the Rock­y­ford Li­brary. Pix­i­la­tion is the art of cre­at­ing a stop-mo­tion an­i­mated film by tak­ing still shots of peo­ple pro­gress­ing through an ac­tion. For a fa­mous ex­am­ple of this art form, check out Na­tional Film Board’s “Neigh­bours” on You Tube.

Join us for a free video-con­fer­ence about grow­ing food on Wed­nes­day, May 4, from 7:00 un­til 8:30 p.m. at the li­brary. This ses­sion is pre­sented by four lo­cal Leth­bridge groups that will share prac­tices and tips for grow­ing food in South­west Al­berta. Top­ics will in­clude sus­tain­abil­ity, af­ford­abil­ity, small space gar­dens, and grow­ing in al­ter­nate spa­ces like school class­rooms.

In­ter­ested in learn­ing the what/where/how/why of proper tree and shrub prun­ing? Drumheller Pub­lic Li­brary is host­ing a pro­gram just for you! Mau­reen Sexsmith-West, ISA Cer­ti­fied Ar­borist and owner of Lady­bug Ar­borists will do a pre­sen­ta­tion on Satur­day, May 7 be­tween 9:00 a.m. and noon. This in­struc­tion is suit­able for both new pruners and those with a solid foun­da­tion who are look­ing to im­prove their skills. Those at­tend­ing will also have the op­por­tu­nity for some hand­son prac­tice in the af­ter­noon in the Drumheller com­mu­nity.

Strath­more Par­ent Link is bring­ing an op­por­tu­nity for par­ents and their preschool­ers to play and learn to­gether. For six con­sec­u­tive Tues­day morn­ings, be­gin­ning at 10:00 on May 17, they will be lead­ing the reg­u­lar Moms ‘ N’ Tots group at the Rock­y­ford Li­brary. Any­one with a child up to the age of five is wel­come to join us for what prom­ises to be a fun hour and a half.

Stay tuned for dates about two up­com­ing jew­ellery-mak­ing ses­sions this spring with Elaina Geer­aert. She will be re­turn­ing to of­fer an­other vik­ing knit ses­sion and in­struc­tion on how to craft your own tree of life.

Reg­is­tra­tion is now open for Drama Camp 2016 at the Rock­y­ford Com­mu­nity Cen­tre this sum­mer. In­struc­tors from Cal­gary Young Peo­ple’s Theatre (CYPT) will be here Mon­day through Fri­day ( July 11 through 15) from 10 un­til 3 each day to lead par­tic­i­pants through var­i­ous games and ac­tiv­i­ties to de­velop their skills in act­ing, im­pro­vi­sa­tion and stage com­bat. In the af­ter­noons, they will de­velop their own play, to be per­formed Fri­day, July 15, at 3:00 p.m. This pro­gram is not just for drama fans. The ob­jec­tive is to pro­vide a safe and cre­ative space for young peo­ple to freely ex­press them­selves and their ideas, to foster a stronger sense of com­mu­nity and a greater pas­sion and ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the arts. Any­one be­tween the ages of seven and eigh­teen may reg­is­ter at the Rock­y­ford Li­brary. Please con­tact the li­brary for more in­for­ma­tion and/or to reg­is­ter. The Rock­y­ford Li­brary is open Tues­days (noon to 6:00 p.m.) and Wed­nes­days/Thurs­days (2:00 to 8:00 p.m.).
