Aged 90 years, 7 months. World War II vet­eran who proudly served with the Cal­gary Fusiliers branch of the Loyal Ed­mon­ton Reg­i­ment from 1944 - 1946. Ru­dolph re­turned from ser­vice abroad with his war bride Mary Ellen (But­ler) Shandera of But­lerville, Nfld to the fam­ily farm in the Hand­hills. He left the fam­ily farm to work for CNR for 44 years, re­tir­ing in 1990. Ru­dolf was born in Hanna and was the last sur­viv­ing child of seven born to Ru­dolph and Alice Jane (Ditch eld) of Hand­hills, AB. He was pre­de­ceased by his wife Mary Ellen on June 21, 2007, his fa­ther Ru­dolph (1958), mother Alice (1933), brothers Wil­liam, Clarence, Ray­mond and sis­ters Elsie Emily, An­nie Alice ( Volb), May (Pugh) and grand­son David in 1977. He is sur­vived by his chil­dren Dr Ray­mond and El­iz­a­beth Shandera (Lou, Jill, Robert); Phil and Anita Shandera (Nathan, Nancy and Natalie); Ger­ald and Brenda Shandera (Brad, Gary and Tina); Geral­dine and Steve Racine (Bob, Bill, Bar­rett and Brandi); 16 foster chil­dren raised as their own and many great grand­chil­dren. Thank you to Dr. Gra­ham and the staff at Drumheller Hospi­tal for the ex­cel­lent care Dad re­ceived. A fam­ily ser­vice will be held at a later date.
