Morrin Community Calendar

The Drumheller Mail - - SPORTS - Darcy Graham 403-772-3747

And we finally got some good rain, and refreshing it was! Thank the Lord... let the celebrations begin! How nice it was to drive to Drumheller on Sunday morning and see the water pooling in the fields... you could almost hear them whispering ahhhhhh as it was soaking into the dusty dryness. And I hope the rains made it up to northern Alberta and helped quiet the flames of the north Fort McMurray fire.

So, we were away at a wedding last weekend... that is why I missed out writing the news. And came back home on Tuesday morning to find one neighbor had given me some lovely yellow poppy flowers from her garden and another neighbor had planted them for me... wow... thank you! Life doesn’t get much better... I like my little town and my friends and my neighbors and now... I have beautiful flowers gracing my front deck... yay!

And speaking of planting, it is that time of year. Please call Mary Newton at 403-3682121 because she wants to tell you more about the Rumsey-Red Deer River Garden-Junior Plots Category. You are invited to design a 12 foot by 12 foot section to be judged and you will be asked to grow veggies... cucumbers, carrots, beans, corn, and one other of your choice... also flowers... pansies, sweet peas, marigolds, zinnias, and one other of your choice. Hopefully this news doesn’t come too late. I intended to include the info on the garden plots a few weeks ago.

Well, summer is quickly closing in and Morrin School kids and staff have only one more month of classes to go before a nice long stretch of holidays. A big event happening at the school, coming up this Friday evening, May 27 (starting at 6:30 p.m.) is the first annual Arts Gala. Come on out community and you will get to see a drama presentation and bid on a variety of live and silent auction items and will feature some student art projects. They are hoping for a good turnout and money raised will go toward the fine arts program at the school. The school also recently worked together on various projects in the last few weeks to gather funds to send to the people of Fort McMurray. Not sure what the final tally was but my daughter reported to me it was around the $3000.00 mark... well done everyone! This encompassing beast of a fire has been a horrific destructive thing for the people of Fort McMurray and neighboring communities... so great to see so many helping in so many ways... remarkable province we live in. Cheers!
