Cadets ex­pe­ri­ence hands on training

Mem­bers of the RCSCC Fu­ri­ous Sea Cadets were able to take on some hands on training off the coast of Vic­to­ria. Above, Cadet Spencer Au­len­bach at the Helm of Pa­trol Craft Training Ves­sel (PCTV) Orca as part of the sea­man de­ploy­ment. Cadets were se­lected from across Canada to par­tic­i­pated aboard the PCTV Orca and Raven. The ex­pe­ri­ence taught them a va­ri­ety of skills in­clud­ing pi­lot­ing the ship, emer­gency pro­ce­dures, nav­i­ga­tion, look­out, dock­ing and an­chor­ing pro­ce­dures and more. High­lights in­cluded a man over­board drill, which taught valu­able team­work and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills. He was among a group of cadets se­lected from across the coun­try to par­tic­i­pate in a week-long de­ploy­ment which taught them a va­ri­ety of skills and lessons about life on a ship.
