Paws in the air
Drumheller’s furry protector is on her way to completing her training to become a police dog.
Henny, a 9 month old German Shepherd, has grown significantly since The Mail last touched base with her, has been in the care of Constable Craig Nelson for about 9 months now.
Henny is currently in testing to gauge her success as a police dog.
“She is really comfortable around people. In testing, she did really well catching the bad guys.”
The pup hangs out in Constable Nelson’s backyard to become more weather resistant in harsh climates.
Constable Nelson has been focusing on socializing the pup as well as protection.
“Right now, Henny likes to play more than she likes to protect her trainer. It is something we are working on,” Says Constable Nelson.
Henny also enjoys checking out garbage and shaking it around. Constable Nelson says it is important for her to remain curious about the world around her.
“She is a friendly, happy dog. Some people see us walking and think she is scary but she is the exact opposite. If all goes well, she will only be with me with a few more months before being sent off for more training.
