Amanda Hemming is finished her second year of Medicine at the University of Alberta. She is home for a few days before she leaves on June 1 with two other U of A Med student classmates for Taipei, Taiwan where they will be working for a month in the emergency ward of one of the biggest hospitals in the world. This will be an amazing experience and learning opportunity. She is then going to spend two weeks holidaying in Vietnam. Go safely Amanda.
The sympathy of the community goes to Connie and Derrick Wilson, Dalan and Avril on the passing on Friday, May 27 of Connie’s father , John Griffith, of Drumheller but formerly of Rumsey. Our sympathy to his wife Laura and the rest of the family. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 31 at the Rumsey Hall.
Another message of sympathy from the community to the Heiliger family at the sudden passing of Anne’s brother Eric Moeller of Gabriola Island, BC at the age of 66. Anne and Allan have gone out there to be with the fam- ily. Our sympathy to Eric’s mother, Carrie Moeller, and to niece Christina and Kevin Kuvaja and sons Alexander and Matthew. Funeral services will be held in Dalum at a future date.
The Verdant Valley Ag Society met on Thursday, May 26. We are donating $1000 to the Red Cross for Fort Mac fire relief, and providing financial assistance to the Drumheller District 4H Exchange trip and to Jared Duncalf who is going on a humanitarian trip to Dominican Republic and Haiti this summer to build a house and school. The Ag Society and Women’s Institute are putting entries in the Hand Hills Stampede Parade on June 4.
Best wishes to two community grads of DVSS, Michael Duncalf and Matt McDougald who celebrated graduation on Saturday, May 28. Congratulations to you both and we will hear more about your future plans soon. Hope you had a great grad. Congratulations to all the grads and best wishes.
On the weekend of May 27 to 29, nineteen members of our family gathered at the Silver Creek Lodge in Canmore to celebrate my special birthday. We had a wonderful weekend of fun, food and family visiting and celebrating. Sunday morning we conclud- ed with brunch at the Banff Springs Hotel. Our grandson Curtis also celebrated his 31st birthday on Friday and his son (our great grandson) Parker was there for the weekend. I am all celebrated out.
I have received some announcements to pass along. Starland County road crews are doing road widening and refurbishing on Range Road 18-2 and ask local residents to use a different road if possible to avoid delays and travel problems. This road work will be going on for the next 6 months.
Everyone is all geared up for the 100th annual Hand Hills Stampede this weekend – June 3 – 5. See you there! Then on Monday, June 6, the Drumheller District 4H Beef Show and Sale takes place in the Delia Arena. This involves three clubs – Delia, Hesketh - Orkney and Rumsey - Rowley. So it is a busy weekend for the members, parents and leaders. Good luck everyone!
