It is with sadness that I have to report the passing of two of our community members this past week. John Griffith, a long-time member of our community, passed away on May 27 and his funeral was held at the Rumsey Hall on May 31. He will be missed by his family plus the many people who attended his funeral to tell stories of his great adventures and a very full and rich life.

Tom Anderson passed away Friday, June 3 in the Drumheller hospital after a long-fought battle against cancer. He strove to enjoy life long after the doctors had expected. He saw two grandchildren born, celebrated the engagement of his son and many more milestones after that initial diagnosis. His wife, Karen, daughters Marci, Chelsey and son Justin, son-in-law Jarod and future daughter-in-law Kennady along with extended fam- ily and many, many neighbours and community members will miss him dearly. “Celebration of Life” will be held in Rumsey at the Hall on Thursday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. There will be a private burial service at the Rumsey cemetery at 11:00. This will be for family only.

This Friday the Rumsey Historical Society will be hosting a launch of the third Rumsey History book. There will be beef on a bun served from 5 to 7 after which there will be a few speakers who will celebrate this great accomplishment and fellowship to follow. This will be your first chance to purchase the new book so you don’t want to miss out.

The Drumheller District 4-H exchange group is hosting a fundraiser this coming Father’s Day. They will be putting on a breakfast at the Rumsey Hall from 9 to noon for everyone who is stumped as to what to get their dad for Father’s day. This is a guaranteed way to win some brownie points with Dad (and Mom) so take everyone out for a great morning at the Rumsey Agri-plex.

The Rumsey Connection Golf tournament is fast approaching as well. It will be held on Thursday, June 23 and will include 9 holes of golf and a steak supper with prizes. Call Elaine Weisse at 403-368-2225 or Dariel Mcnaughton at 403-3682120 to sign up.

Last week I listed the Graduates of this year and hoped that I got them all but unfortunately, I missed one. I would like to congratulate Shayla Daniels who completed her education in Trochu. Her mom, Denise (Newton) and Mike Daniels couldn’t be prouder. Good luck in all your future plans.

The Rumsey Ag Society would like to let all the Rumsey resident graduates know if they are considering post-secondary education, plan to get to work on the application for the Rumsey Ag Society scholarship. Deadlines for applications are August 20 and information is available from Angie Walker.

Try saying these for fun: I thought a thought. But the thought I thought wasn’t the thought I thought I thought. If the thought I thought I thought had been the thought I thought, I wouldn’t have thought so much. “Theophilus Thistle, a successful young thistle sifter, in sifting a sieve of unsifted thistles, thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb. Now see if thou, in sifting a sieve of unsifted thistles, thrust not three thousand thistles through the thick of thy thumb!”

Have a great week.
