The Playschool had their wind-up party on Tuesday, May 31 at Treehouse Playcenter in Calgary. The kids enjoyed the play structures and games and had a delicious lunch. Mrs. Slemko would like to thank all of the parents and kids for a wonderful playschool year. The playschool will be moving to the basement of the hall for the 2016-2017 school year and will have a moving day on July 17. Playschool is running a fall bulbs fundraiser. If you are interested in purchasing some bulbs, please contact Rachel Dundas, or any playschool parent.
Hussar Skate Club held their AGM on Tuesday, May 31. The executive board for the upcoming skate season is comprised of: Ang Holm – President, Jeadene Gregory – Vice President, Lisa Armstrong – Secretary, Charlotte Bartman – Treasurer, Mary Ann Oxtoby – Skating Registrar, Pam Collett – Hockey Registrar, Clay Armstrong – Hockey Director, Jeadene Gregory – Ringette Representative. The Club is in need of a CAHL Representative, a Hockey Govenor, and a stag supper organizer. If you have a child that participates in any program at Hussar Arena, please consider helping out in one of these positions. The deadline for registration for all programs in Hussar (skating, hockey, ringette) is June 30. There will be a $100 penalty applied to all late registrations. Cheques may be postdated for September 30 and can be sent to Hussar Skating Club at PO Box 211. There will also be a $100 penalty imposed for late payment. On Thursday, June 2, the students and staff of Hussar School, along with parent volunteers, enjoyed a yearend field trip to Stettler. The trip included a train ride from Stettler to Big Valley, sightseeing and lunch, and then a train ride back to Stettler. The students were entertained on the train by a musician and a clown, and were delighted to visit the open air car. Thank you to all who helped with the trip and to Donna Collett, Pam Collett, Linda Moczulski, and Jody Filkohazy for making everyone a bagged supper for the long bus ride home.
A lovely crowd gathered at the Sundowners Centre on Sunday, June 5 to help celebrate Ted Sandum’s 80th birthday. Many family members and friends were there to wish him well.
Dayne Collett and his Venom B Peewee team hosted their home tournament, The Redneck Rumble this past weekend. Congratulations to the team for winning the Gold Medal!
Congratulations to Daun & Murray Brown on the celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary with a campout at Crawling Valley this past weekend. Over 150 people attended the delicious roast beef supper hosted by the Browns on Saturday. The weather was perfect which made for a great weekend of visiting, boating & celebrating!
Duck Lake Days will take place June 10-12. There will be ball throughout the weekend and a steak supper on Saturday Night. Please contact Erica Thew for more information.
There will be a Music Recital on Wednesday, June 15 at Hussar Hall starting at 6:30. Come out and enjoy some local talent!
Hussar Days are fast approaching. They will take place June 17-19 with a variety of activities taking place throughout the weekend. The parade theme is Salute to all Hussar School Students and Staff – Past and Present. Start getting those floats ready! The playschool will once again hold the community garage sale at the Curling Club and will be open for more hours this year. Please contact Kyle Gordon for information on the ball tournament. New to Hussar Daze will be a bouncy house set up on the grounds for the little ones. Parents will be responsible for supervising their children. There will be more detailed information on Hussar Daze in the weeks to follow.
There will be a ‘Farewell to Hussar School’ on Saturday, June 18, from 12:00-2:00. The school is accepting photos and other memorabilia to put on display. Be sure to stop by the school for lunch and a walk down memory lane!
The 4H Beef Club will hold their awards and banquet night on Wednesday, June 29 at Hussar hall. The kids will be meeting before the banquet to have a baseball game at the Rodeo grounds. The buyers and awards donors are invited to join us for a delicious supper. Please RSVP to Wendy Nail or Carey Taubert if you plan to attend.
Arlena Baxter, daughter of George and the late Karen Baxter, is getting married in Utah on June 16, 2016. In lieu of a bridal shower, we will be collecting money on a bridal shower list at the Hussar Credit Union and sending it to Arlena and her husband to be Brett Lybbert.
