Sev­eral for­mer Hus­sar stu­dents were honoured at an awards cer­e­mony at Stan­dard School on Fri­day, June 10. Re­ceiv­ing aca­demic awards for hon­our roll marks were: Mor­gan Peake, Dex­ter Hale, Tea­gan Adam­cewicz, Katie Taubert, Erin Slemko, Everett Bishop, Macken­zie Holm, Lane Adam­cewicz, and Reese Taubert. Con­grat­u­la­tions also to Dex­ter for re­ceiv­ing Grade 7 Stu­dent of the Year award, Katie for re­ceiv­ing Junior High Fe­male Ath­lete of the year, and Reese for win­ning the Se­nior High Male Sports­man­ship Award. to go!

Duck Lake Days were held June 10-12. The ball tour­na­ment was a suc­cess with the ‘Mound Pounders’ win­ning the A fi­nals, and ‘Just the Tip’ win­ning the B event. Thanks to ev­ery­one who came out and played or watched some ball. There was a de­li­cious BBQ steak din­ner on Satur­day night with a dance af­ter­wards. A good time was had by all. Thanks to all of the Duck Lake Crew who once again put on this great event.

Vil­lage clean up will take place on the af­ter­noon of June 15. Volunteers can meet at the school for lunch be­fore tidy­ing up the vil­lage. Thank Way you to all who con­trib­ute in keep­ing Hus­sar clean and beau­ti­ful.

There will be a Mu­sic Recital on Wed­nes­day, June 15 at Hus­sar Hall start­ing at 6:30. Come out and en­joy some lo­cal tal­ent!

Hus­sar Daze will be held June 17-19 with many ac­tiv­i­ties tak­ing place through­out the week­end. Chi­nook Financial will kick off the week­end with a beef on a bun lunch at the Hall on Fri­day from 11-1. The ball tour­na­ment will take place Fri­day, Satur­day and Sun­day and is al­ways en­ter­tain­ing to take in. Hours for the beer gar­den are: Satur­day 12-6, and Sun­day 12-5. There will be karaoke both days at the beer gar­dens. There will be break­fast of­fered from 8-10:30 in the arena. Fol­low­ing break­fast is the pa­rade at 11:00. The theme this year is ‘Salute to all Hus­sar Stu­dents & Staff – Past and Present’. Af­ter the pa­rade, be sure to come visit the school for the fi­nal farewell to Hus­sar School. It will take place from 12-2, with a pro­gram at 1:00. There will be a free hot dog lunch pro­vided, as well as adult and youth pedal trac­tor rides. New to Hus­sar Daze this year will be a bouncy cas­tle and bumper balls for the kids. They will be open on Satur­day 12-6. There is no charge, but par­ent su­per­vi­sion is re­quired. Playschool will be hold­ing the garage sale at the Curl­ing Club. Drop off times are Wed­nes­day, June 15 and Thurs­day, June 16 from 7-9pm. The garage sale will be open Fri­day 11-1, and Satur­day 12-4. There will be a BBQ sup­per at the Hall from 5-7:30 on Satur­day, fol­lowed by the dance start­ing at 9 pm. The Midget base­ball fi­nals will be in Hus­sar on June 25. Lo­cal play­ers in­clude: Emma Arm­strong, Bai­ley Filko­hazy, Reese Taubert, Kirk Fraser, Wacy San­dum, Si­mon Hoff, Cole Sam­mons, Jay­den Nail and Larissa Hiebert. Come on out and watch some great base­ball.

Re­mem­ber that reg­is­tra­tions for hockey, skat­ing, and ringette pro­grams for the 2016-2017 sea­son are due be­fore June 30. Late reg­is­tra­tions will in­cur a $100 penalty. Please con­tact Pam Col­lett for registration forms or for more in­for­ma­tion.

Con­do­lences go out to the fam­ily of Mary Arm­strong on her re­cent pass­ing.

Hus­sar Mu­nic­i­pal Li­brary is seek­ing in­put. With the up­com­ing school clo­sure, Hus­sar Li­brary will soon find Photo ID is re- it­self with­out a home in the school build­ing. The board is con­sid­er­ing op­tions for the fu­ture of the li­brary. Op­tions in­clude: clos­ing the li­brary al­to­gether, op­er­at­ing the li­brary with­out a phys­i­cal space, and op­er­at­ing the li­brary out of a smaller, ex­ist­ing com­mu­nity space (likely a spare room in the curl­ing club). The board is de­pend­ing upon com­mu­nity mem­bers pro­vid­ing their in­put for di­rec­tion in this change. By now, hope­fully ev­ery­one has re­ceived a flyer in the mail out­lin­ing the op­tions for the li­brary in de­tail. Please take the time to make your thoughts known.
